.Marianas Synopsis...
Satellite showing mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers. A few
lightning strikes to the south and east of the coastal waters have
been observed by lightning detection. Buoys and latest altimetry
passes are indicating combined seas of 4 to 6 feet.
&&
.Discussion...
A slow moving surface trough will bring showers over the next couple
days. Scattered showers expected at times, especially over Guam and
Rota as moisture continues to pull north. Seen a few strikes off to
our south and east and have included the potential for thunderstorms
in the forecast, but coverage should be isolated at best. Shower
potential expected to diminish from east to west later Wednesday and
Wednesday night trough flattens and pushes east. Much drier air
expected through the rest of the period as trade swell builds in.
Isolated showers possible with passing wrinkles in the trades. The
bulk of showery activity will forced south of the Marianas with the
trade convergence. Some mostly cloudy skies and low end scattered
showers possible for Guam and Rota if this area of convergence drifts
north.
&&
.Marine...
Gentle to moderate winds will increase over next 24-36 hours and
become moderate to fresh by Wednesday and continue through the end of
the week. Combined seas 4 to 6 feet through Tuesday night will begin
to increase on Wednesday as a trade swell builds in. Seas will build
to 6 to 8 feet, possibly 9 feet, by Thursday. Surf heights will also
increase. Not expecting high surf criteria to be reached, but could
see a high risk of rip currents for north and especially east facing
reefs.
&&
.Eastern Micronesia...
A weak trade convergence has developed near Majuro with overall
spotty showers associated with this feature. Heavy showers look
minimal near Majuro but further east we're seeing a bit more
convective clouds which we may see by tomorrow afternoon. This
feature is expected to push west into Kosrae and Pohnpei and will be
enhanced from divergence aloft. Also with a weak circulation
currently southwest of Jaluit, expect increasing showers activity as
it approached Kosrae. Models hint at gusty winds mid week for
Pohnpei.
Altimetry indicates seas around 6 ft near Pohnpei and east of
Majuro. North to northeast swell is dropping slightly, then Tuesday
night is expected to increase again, but more northeasterly than
northerly, expecting surf to be a bit short of advisory criteria.
&&
.Western Micronesia...
A surface trough east of Yap is generating scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms near Yap. Expect scattered showers for the
rest of the week starting tomorrow for Koror as the trough transits
through. Same for Yap, except we may see better weather near the
weekend for Yap as the system passes through. More or less on and
off scattered showers through this week due to trade wind
convergence and weak disturbances passing through this area.
Fair weather for Chuuk until Tuesday evening, conditions will start
to deteriorate through the end of the week with a slight decrease in
shower potential for the weekend.
Mostly moderate winds for the week. Altimetry indicates 4 to 6 feet
for all islands, we may see a slight increase seas reaching up to 7
or 8 around the late period of the week due to increasing northeast
swell.
