.SYNOPSIS...Onshore flow will continue today for showers and
heavy snow in the mountains and passes. A few disturbances will
then bring light precipitation to Western Washington through
Thursday before the next front brings measurable rainfall and more
mountain snow to the area on Friday. High pressure will bring
drier weather over the weekend.

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...We're in post-frontal
onshore flow this morning with showers and heavy snow in the
Cascades. Showers are strongest/heaviest in the central Cascades
where a convergence zone continues to hammer both Stevens and
Snoqualmie passes - A Winter Storm Warnings remains in effect.
Showers will decrease in coverage late this afternoon as a trough
exits and onshore flow eases. Temperatures for today will remain a
few degrees cooler than average with highs in the mid 40s.

Western WA remains on the eastern periphery of the offshore ridge
Tuesday and Wednesday and disturbances rolling down in north flow
will trigger additional showers across the region. Snow levels
remain low (near sea level) and there's a threat of a rain/snow
mix across the lowlands with spotty light accumulations possible
(less than an inch - significant impacts not expected). Wednesday
morning will be cold (in the 20s) with another shot of rain/snow
mix in the afternoon and evening. Again, snow levels remain low,
but widespread accumulations across the lowlands are not expected.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...The offshore ridge will
shift inland on Thursday for mainly dry weather across the region
(with just some light lingering showers along the coast and in
the Cascades). A trough will ride over the top of the ridge and
clip through western WA on Friday for another chance of showers
and more mountain snow. The ridge then rebuilds over the region
this weekend for drier weather. 33

.AVIATION...An upper trough over the area today will shift inland
tonight with westerly flow aloft becoming northwest. At the
surface, moderate onshore flow will continue today and gradually
ease tonight. The air mass will be stable with low and mid level
moisture. A Puget Sound Convergence Zone will sag south through
the area today then fall apart this evening.

KSEA...Mostly low clouds through this morning although low clouds
could scatter at times. Ceilings should improve in the afternoon
although a PSCZ might complicate things. Low clouds look to return
tonight. Gusty southerly winds will ease this afternoon and
evening. 16

.MARINE...Onshore flow will gradually east today through Tuesday
morning. Gale force west winds in the Strait will ease later this
morning. Small craft advisory strength westerly winds elsewhere
will continue today then ease tonight.

Offshore flow will develop Tuesday afternoon and peak Tuesday
night. Small craft advisory east to northeast winds are possible
for the Northern Inland Waters and West Entrance Strait of Juan de
Fuca Tuesday night.

A weak frontal system will move through the area later Wednesday.
Another front will reach the area on Friday.

Seas will hover around 10 feet for the Coastal Waters and West
Entrance Strait of Juan de Fuca today and Tuesday then subside. 16

A man was killed in a single car crash around 7:17 am PST Monday, 1/31/2022. According to Washington State Patrol, speed and ice were factors in the collision which resulted when a man in a truck attempted to speed past another vehicle, then lost control after hitting a patch of ice while on an overpass on Highway 303. The truck struck and rolled over a Jersey barrier, falling onto the road below. The driver died in the|crash, while a passenger sustained only minor injuries. Temperatures around the area were generally in the 30 to 33 degree range at the time of the incident and according to a media report icy roads ...were reported around the region with similar reports from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue.
