.SHORT TERM (Tonight through Tuesday Night)...
Upper level ridge over northern Mexico this evening will gradually
build eastward into south-central Texas by Tuesday night. Southerly
low level flow will increase to 30-40 knots over the area tonight
in response to low pressure over northwest Texas. Expect winds
will remain elevated during the night with a slow increase in
clouds over the coastal plains overnight. Lows will be in the
upper 70s to lower 80s tonight.
After brief early morning clouds Tuesday, mostly sunny skies and
breezy conditions will occur. Highs will be near or slightly above
today's value with readings ranging the upper 80s coast to near
109 degrees western Brush Country. Afternoon heat index values
will be in the Heat Advisory range again over the inland Coastal
Bend to the Brush Country with maximum heat index values near 113
degrees.
Models show winds will be a little less Tuesday night along with
slightly drier air. Will show low temperatures about 2 degrees
lower over inland areas Tuesday night.

.LONG TERM (Wednesday through Monday)...
The two main talking points for the long period:
- It's going to be hot.
- It's going to be dry.
Ensemble guidance is in good agreement that an anomalously strong
ridge at 500 hPa will remain anchored over the western two-thirds of
the CONUS through the weekend. Subsidence associated with this ridge
will contribute to continued warm temperatures. Both NAEFS and ENS
mean 850 hPa temperatures are forecast to remain above the 95th
percentile of climatology for most of the long term period. However,
a brief respite is forecast with slightly cooler 850 hPa
temperatures from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. This will
translate to high temperatures ranging from near 90 along the coast
to ONLY the low 100s across the western Brush Country.
There will be medium to high chances (40% to 70%+) of heat index
values between 105 and 109 each day. Medium chances (around 40%) for
heat index values above 110 will return on Friday and continue
through the weekend. Deterministic Wet Bulb Globe Temperatures
forecast by the NBM this weekend will climb into the upper 80s,
indicating a moderate to high risk of heat illness with prolonged
outdoor activity.
Early next week, the GEPS/GEFS/ENS ensemble mean 500 hPa height
patterns all have a series of shortwave troughs that progress
through the Pacific Northwest. Height rises downstream of the trough
axis will result in the upper level ridge axis shifting eastward and
becoming centered over the central CONUS next week. Only the GEFS
mean indicates the potential of a weakness developing at the base of
the ridge by the end of next week. Therefore, warm and dry
conditions are likely to continue through much of next week. The CPC
currently has much of South Texas highlighted with approximately 90%
chance of temperatures being either near or above normal
temperatures around a 70% chance of near or below normal
precipitation during next week.

.MARINE...
Moderate to strong onshore flow/SCA conditions will persist over
the Gulf waters through tonight. A moderate onshore flow (SCEC
conditions) is expected Tuesday into Tuesday night.
Onshore winds between 10 and 20 knots will persist through the
weekend. SCEC conditions will be possible mainly during the late
afternoon and early evening hours each day.
