Clouds are expected to clear out earlier than anticipated, which
will enhance mixing this afternoon. Looking at cross sections and
700mb wind, we have decided to upgraded the Eddy County Plains,
Davis Mountains, and eastern Culberson County to a High Wind
Warning. We have expanded the Wind Advisory to include the Chinati
Mountains, Marfa Plateau, Winkler and Ward counties. Given that
Guadalupe Bowl has already began to gust, we have also decided to
start the High Wind Warning at 03z for the Guadalupe and Delaware
Mountains.

-RA continues at KHOB, KINK, and KMAF with BKN060, and is expected
to continue over the next few hours. Every terminal should remain
at VFR conditions despite the low CIGS. Elevated west winds
continue at KCNM, KHOB, and KINK, light at all other terminals
overnight. All terminals will see gusty winds in the morning
beginning around 09z and continue through the remainder of the
TAF period.

An upper trough is over the western part of the country with an
upper low south of California. This upper low will become engulfed
in the main upper trough as the trough progresses eastward tonight
into Saturday. The upper trough will move over the central part of
the country Saturday night with the base of the upper trough moving
over West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.
Upper lift from the approaching trough has resulted in rain showers
developing and moving across Southeast New Mexico and West Texas
this afternoon. Temperatures today will likely be a little cooler
than yesterday due to increased cloud cover with highs mostly
ranging from the 50s to the 70s. Winds will begin to increase out of
the southwest to west tonight as the base of the upper trough begins
to move over the region. High winds are expected in the Guadalupe
and Delaware Mountains so a High Wind Warning is in effect beginning
tonight and continues into tomorrow night. Winds may gust up to 85
mph through Guadalupe Pass! Low temperatures tonight will mostly be
in the 40s and 50s with some 30s across northern Lea County and in
the mountains.
Winds will continue to increase areawide by Saturday afternoon with
advisory conditions likely. A Wind Advisory has been issued for
Saturday afternoon for the Southeast New Mexico plains, Culberson
County, the Davis Mountains and Foothills, Reeves County, and Loving
County. Culberson County, Eddy County, and the Davis Mountains may
need to be upgraded to a warning but confidence is low at this time
so will let later shifts determine if a High Wind Warning is needed
for those areas. Also, the Wind Advisory may need to be expanded
eastward. Blowing dust will be likely Saturday afternoon across the
area. Temperatures Saturday afternoon will likely be a little cooler
than those today due to the arrival of the Pacific front and cooler
heights aloft so went a bit cooler than the NBM for some locations.
Rain chances will continue for areas west of the Upper Trans Pecos
and portions of Southeast New Mexico and the northern Permian Basin
on Saturday. Rain chances will end Saturday night with total
accumulations expected to be less than a quarter of an inch, except
in the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains. An arctic cold front will push
into the area Saturday night. Low temperatures Saturday night are
expected to range from the teens in portions of Southeast New
Mexico, the northern Permian Basin, and the higher elevations of the
mountains to the 30s along the Rio Grande. Wind chills may reach
around zero degrees in northern Lea County Saturday night!

(Sunday through Thursday)

Sunday the region will be on backside of upper trough moving off to
the east as ridge builds in from the west. High pressure continues
through the first of next week with an upper trough swinging across
the Rockies and onto the plains Thursday. Another trough will hit
the West Coast next Friday
Temperatures Sunday will be noticeably colder behind the front with
highs only climbing into the 40s... temps slowly warm after that
with highs climbing back into the 50s Monday... with 60s and 70s
Tuesday. A backdoor front blows in Wednesday then lifts out before
a stronger front moves through early Thursday. Will have another
cold morning Monday with lows in the teens and 20s with some 30s
south. Tuesday and Wednesday morning lows will be back to around
normal.
No rain expected over the coming week and for a change no big wind
event on the horizon.
