.SYNOPSIS...Stable weather conditions will prevail tonight,
interrupted by brief passing showers at times. A slight increase
in moisture, and thus, increased shower activity, is likely into
early next week due to the passage of occasional pockets of low-
level moisture from a fragmenting stationary front to the north.
Still, a seasonal and promising weather pattern will persist
throughout the workweek. A long-period northeasterly swell
spreading across the Atlantic waters will deteriorate marine and
coastal conditions through at least Wednesday.

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Wednesday...
Potential hazards during the short-term period are still marine
and rip currents at limited and moderate risk levels,
respectively, increasing to elevated and high by Monday.
Except for a few passing showers and limited afternoon shower
development downwind from the local islands and over southwestern
Puerto Rico, a generally stable weather pattern, promising for
outdoor activities, prevailed today. These conditions should
persist through most of the short-term forecast period,
influenced by mid-to-upper level riding and substantially drier
air above. In full agreement with satellite-derived total
precipitable water imagery and the most recent global model
guidance, an increase in the frequency of trade wind showers is
possible with the passage of occasional pockets of low-level
moisture originating from a fragmenting stationary front to the
north. Municipalities of eastern and northern Puerto Rico and the
U.S. Virgin Islands will be the most affected, considering limited
convective development affecting southwestern sections of Puerto
Rico each afternoon. This activity should not generate excessive
rainfall nor flooding impacts, but fast-moving passing showers
could produce brief gusty conditions.
Temperatures will remain at seasonal values, ranging from the
upper 80s across coastal areas of eastern Puerto Rico during the
daytime to the lower 60s across higher elevations at nighttime.
Surface winds will gradually turn from the east northeast,
increasing from 5-10 mph with land breeze variations at night to
10-20 mph with higher gusts and sea breeze variations during the
daytime.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through Tuesday...
The inherited long-term forecast remains on track, with fair
weather conditions and seasonal weather patterns prevailing for
most of the period. Expect ridging and dry air to dominate the
area through at least Sunday, limiting the potential for moderate
and heavy rainfall to occur. Nevertheless, patches of moist air,
with slightly below normal to normal precipitable water values,
will still filter into the local islands from time to time. The
showers will be across the northeastern quadrant of Puerto Rico
and the U.S. Virgin Islands during the morning hours and southwestern
Puerto Rico in the afternoon. The wind flow is still expected to
remain from the northeast through the end of the period. At this
time, models suggest an increase in moisture content on Monday as
a frontal boundary reaches the area.Latest model guidance shows up
to 1.5 inches of rain on Monday. On Tuesday, expect the typical
weather pattern to return.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions expected to continue through the
forecast period. Winds will go down between 27/22Z-28/14Z, at 10
knots or less, but will pick up after that, again out of the east
at 12 to 16 knots at FL050. Passing SHRA will be possible tonight
over the area, possible reaching TJBQ and causing very brief
periods of low ceilings and reduced VIS.

.MARINE...Moderate to locally fresh easterly winds will promote
moderate chop conditions for most local waters and passages.
A long-period northerly swell spreading across the Atlantic
waters will continue to deteriorate marine and coastal conditions
tonight through at least Wednesday, causing building seas up to 7
feet. So far, Buoy 41043 from NOAA's National Data Buoy Center,
located about 180 miles north of San Juan, recently reported a
wave height of 7.9 feet with a dominant period of 12 seconds from
the north. As a result, Small Craft Advisories are in effect for
the nearshore and offshore Atlantic waters, and Mona Passage.
Dangerous surf conditions and rip currents are expected due to
breaking waves around 6 to 10 feet. For this reason, a High Risk
of Rip Currents and a High Surf Advisory for the northern beaches
of Puerto Rico, the beaches of Culebra and St. Thomas. Life-
threatening rip currents often occur in the vicinity of groins,
jetties, reefs, and piers.

A 26-year-old male was surfing in Domes Beach, Rincon, and was caught in a rip current and drowned.
