One more very hot day is expected today before a much anticipated
cold front leads to some welcomed relief. Ahead of the front,
temperatures are expected to soar above 100 across much of the
area this afternoon, likely aided by compressional warming
effects. Widely scattered showers and storms will be possible
along and behind the front this afternoon and evening as well,
with a marginally strong to severe storm or two not out of the
question given large DCAPE values. Elevated shower and
thunderstorm activity will then linger into the overnight period,
mostly across northern into central Oklahoma.

The front will have cleared much of the area by Wednesday morning,
with a few showers and storms continuing behind it. We may also see
a good deal of cloud cover linger through the day, especially across
central and northern Oklahoma, which will help keep temperatures in
the 80s for most areas, with 90s for highs across southern Oklahoma
and western north Texas. Additional isolated shower/thunderstorm
activity is then possible Wednesday afternoon across southern
portions of the area as well.
Low rain chances will continue into Thursday across southern/western
parts of the area before decreasing later Thursday through Saturday
as the front washes out. Southerly winds return to the area on
Friday and temperatures will rebound back into the low 90s as
abundant sun returns to the area.
The longwave pattern continues to shift by the weekend as the upper
ridge that has been so dominant this summer finally retreats
westward and weakens. A shortwave trough will dig southward this
across the upper Midwest, helping to send another front into our
area by late Saturday into Sunday. Models continue to suggest the
potential for more widespread rainfall chances along and behind this
front Sunday into early next week as the front is forecast to stall
in or near the area. Increasing clouds/precipitation will help keep
temperatures below average during this period.

A cold front has entered northern OK early this morning, and will
slowly progress southward throughout the day. There's the
potential for some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms
along and just behind it this afternoon, but for now will not
mention any TS until later tonight well behind the front. The best
chance this afternoon may be near SWO, OKC/OUN and CSM so
amendments may be necessary if coverage is higher than
anticipated. MVFR cigs will also develop behind the front late
tonight into early Wed AM.
