However, colder air and a locally heavier band of precipitation in more northern areas such as the Poconos and northern New Jersey allowed for a few inches of snow accumulation to occur.

.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure near the Tidewater area of Virginia this morning will
move offshore later today. High pressure will then build across the
Middle Atlantic region for late tonight and last through Friday
night. A deepening low pressure area will cross the Middle Altantic
area Saturday before moving into New England Saturday night. More
high pressure will follow for Sunday and into early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
A messy system is still on tap to affect the area with snow and rain
for today. As of early this morning primary surface low was
over the Appalachians near eastern TN while secondary low was
beginning to take shape near the North Carolina coast. This
secondary low will take over as the dominant low today as it
moves eastward just off to our south. Precip just starting to
overspread the area at this time. Temps in the south fairly mild
so we expect this to be an all rain event near the coast.
Farther north towards the I-95 corridor precip will probably
start as rain and then mix with or even change to snow by around
mid morning. However with both the temp and dew point likely
just above freezing at the surface I think this will limit
accumulation, especially on road surfaces since it's been mild
recently. The upshot is that the urban corridor from Wilmington
to Philly to near Trenton could see a bit of slushy accumulation
but mainly on grassy surfaces and mainly a half inch or so or
less if that. However not too far north of here though I have
some concerns that higher elevation areas (near and above
roughly 700 feet) over portions of SE PA into central NJ could
actually see 1-3 inches of snow accumulation in spots. This
would be higher elevation areas from western Chester Co. east
into western Montgomery, upper Bucks Counties and then towards
Hunterdon and Somerset Counties in NJ (again, higher elevation
areas in these counties). Since these amounts in these areas
should be fairly localized and confined to higher terrain we're
not expanding the advisory farther south to here. Still expect
that it will be over the southern Poconos into far norther NJ
(Sussex County) where higher amounts of 2 to 4 inches or so will
be more widespread abd thus advisories in effect as precip
should be mainly snow in this area and more easily stick since
it's colder here. Even here though the higher amounts around 4
inches will be mainly areas above 1000 feet while lower
elevation areas may only see a couple inches.
Precip continues through most of the day and there are still
indications a warm layer may try to move in around 700mb around
late morning into early this afternoon. Thus, while precip
should be mainly rain, snow or a mix of rain/snow there is the
potential for some sleet to mix in over SE PA. Precip should
start to diminish in intensity and then wind down late day
towards the 4-7pm timeframe. The precip will keep temperatures
chilly today so most areas should see temps today hovering
around the mid 30s except low 30s over the southern Poconos and
near 40 at the coast.
For tonight, low pressure zips off to the east out to sea while high
pressure starts to build eastwards towards the Great Lakes. The flow
should be light out of the north and this may allow a fair amount of
low stratus to linger. From the urban corridor and points S/E,
expect lows mostly in the upper 20s to low 30s with mid 20s farther
north.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A period of dry weather as weak high pressure builds in from the
north while a weak low/front remain well to the south/east. There
will likely be some extra cloudiness across Delmarva and SE NJ
associated with the low/front, but right now it doesn't appear that
any showers will stray this far north. Temperatures will be near
average Thu but rise a little above normal Friday. Clouds will also
be on the increase Friday as the next system approaches. This could
cut into the current MaxT forecast for Friday, so some adjustments
in future fcsts are possible.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A deepening H5 trough which is quite progressive late this week will
cause low pressure to deepen across the mid-South region Fri night.
This low will continue to deepen strongly while moving across our
area Sat/Sat evening. Rains and gusty winds are expected in most
areas with some snow possible far N/W. Once the strong cold front
passes the area Sat afternoon, winds will continue to increase and
wind advisory criteria is probable for the area. Wind warning gusts
are not out of the question, but presently not in the fcst. Colder
and drier will sweep over the area Sat night and cut off any showers
that linger behind the storm. Highs Sat will range from the mid 30s
NW to the mid/upper 50s for SE DE/NJ. Following the cold front the
highs Sun will only be in the 20s NW and low 40s SE. Strong winds
gusts will continue into Sunday also. Many of the 00Z models offer
rather good agreement with the track and intensity of the low, so
confidence in the system is probably higher than usual attm. Pay
attention to future fcsts regarding the storm since impacts are
probable for many parts of the region.
Following the storm, mostly tranquil weather for the remaining part
of the long term. The cold temps of Sunday will quickly moderate
back to above normal next week with widespread highs in the upper
50s/low 60s for Tue/Wed. Little precipitation is expected with high
pressure affecting the weather for the most part.

.AVIATION /11Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Through Today...Expect precip to move into the TAF sites between
12-13z with conditions quickly lowering to MVFR and then IFR
within an hour or two of its arrival. It should be all rain for
MIV and ACY with a mix of snow and rain for ILG, PHL, PNE, and
TTN. Mid to late morning would be the period most favored for
precip to fall as mainly snow at these sites with visbys down to
1-2 SM, perhaps even briefly lower at times. It's also possible
these sites could see some sleet mix in at times around the 15
to 18z timeframe. ABE and RDG should see all snow. Precip
continues through most of the day, likely winding down around
the 22-00z timeframe. Winds east around 5 knots this morning
becoming NE 5-10 knots this afternoon. Moderate confidence.
Tonight...Precip will be over but IFR or lower cigs are likely
to linger much of the night for most sites before conditions
improve late. Winds N/NW 5 knots or less. Moderate confidence.
