What happened

The episode as NWS GYX wrote it up.

On the morning of September 22nd a rare early morning severe thunderstorm dropped quarter to half dollar size hail to parts of Rockingham County. A cold front was passing through New England during the morning, with a line of heavy rain showers and thunderstorms pushing across Southern New England. The northern extension of this line of storms moved across Southern New Hampshire, where a cluster of storms interacted with the sea breeze front. This enhanced the storms to become severe with damaging hail occurring over a half hour period. In addition, isolated wind damage was also reported further inland along the New Hampshire and Massachusetts border region.
