Drought conditions across northeastern Minnesota during the month of October saw an expansion of D0 Abnormally Dry at the beginning of the month across a large swath of the region. Additionally, a small area of D2 Severe Drought was introduced with the update on the 4th into far southeastern Carlton County. Overall, precipitation was only about 25-50% of normal for the month, but no significant expansion of D2 Severe Drought was observed across the region with little change overall in drought conditions over the remainder of the month.

An area of D1 Moderate Drought was in place at the beginning of the month in the southeastern corner of Carlton County. With the update on the 4th, a small area of D2 Severe Drought was introduced in the far southeastern corner of the county. Little change in drought status was observed over the remainder of the month despite the area receiving only about 25 percent of normal rainfall for the month.
