A strong area of low pressure moved from the Central Plains into the Mid-Mississippi Valley during this time period leading to multiple waves of snow that affected the Northland.

A prolonged snowfall event occurred across northeastern Minnesota beginning the morning of the 21st and lasting into the late evening hours of the 22nd and early morning hours of the 23rd. A strong area of low pressure moved from the Central Plains into the Mid-Mississippi Valley during this time period leading to multiple waves of snow that affected the Northland. Most of the region received at least 6 inches of accumulation by the time the storm ended with many areas receiving upwards of 1 foot of accumulation by the time snow ended. The highest total came from near Isle where 19.8 inches piled up in a little over 24 hours.

Heavier snowfall totals were seen across the southern portion of Cass County where amounts of 8 to 12 inches were received. The highest report was 16 inches just north of Pillager.
Snowfall of 10 to 14 inches was reported across the county with the highest reports coming from the southern half. The highest report was 14.9 inches near Fort Ripley.
Snowfall reports across the southern half of the county ranged from 10 to 16 inches with 19.8 inches recorded just to the northeast of Isle.
Snowfall totals of 6 to 11 inches were received from Pine County with a high report of 11.2 inches near Sturgeon Lake.
Snowfall of 6 to 8 inches was received across northern Cass County with this system. The highest report was 9.1 inches 11.5 miles southwest of Remer.
Snowfall totals of 6 to 10 inches were received across northern Aitkin County with the highest report being 10.7 inches near McGregor.
Snowfall totals of 10 to 17 inches were reported across southern St. Louis County with slightly lower amounts in Carlton County. The highest report was 20 inches in southeastern Duluth. The combination of heavy snow and high winds at one point led to closures of both the Bong and Blatnik bridges due to vehicle collisions involving numerous vehicles, however, no injuries were reported with these incidents.
Snowfall totals of 6 to 9 inches were received across the southern part of Itasca County with a high report of 9.1 inches near Coleraine.
Snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches were common across the central portion of St. Louis County with a high report of 7.8 inches near Payne.
Snowfall totals of around a foot were received across southern Lake County by the time snowfall ended. The highest report was 14 inches as of 8AM on the 22nd eight miles northeast of Two Harbors, but no additional reports were received from this station after this despite snow continuing for an additional 18 hours.
