Breezy northeast winds are expected overnight into Thursday as
Hurricane Ian moves across the Florida peninsula and high pressure
is situated to the north over the Midwest. The flow between the two
will allow the gusty northeast winds to continue into the short term
period before slowing decreasing into the weekend. Near surface flow
of 30-40 knots and good mixing during the day Thursday will allow
the gusts to reach in excess of 30 mph. Some gusts to tropical storm
force remain possible along the coast and coastal sections from
Indian Pass to the Suwanee River and into the far southeast Florida
Big Bend. The atmosphere doesn't fully decouple overnight so don't
be surprised of a few breezy winds tonight. The funneling from the
north and some mid/high clouds overtop much of the area will keep
highs Thursday in the low to mid 70s. A few outer rainbands from Ian
may reach our eastern Florida Big Bend counties overnight into
Thursday.

Conditions will continue to be breezy areawide Friday thanks to a
strong
pressure gradient from a 1030 mb high centered across the
northeastern states and Hurricane Ian to the east. A few rainbands
may affect the far eastern portions of the area Friday as Hurricane
Ian pulls off the Florida east coast. High temperatures will be held
down in the lower 70s across the eastern areas with more clouds and
rain. Highs are expected to range from the mid 70s to low 80s across
the western half of the area with overnight lows ranging from the
upper 50s to mid 60s.

Ian is expected to be moving away from our area during the extended
period with dry conditions areawide. Temperatures are expected to
be near to slightly below average with highs generally in the low to
mid 80s and overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s.

and seas are expected to stay elevated for the remainder of this

Low level winds will strengthen over the next few days as
Hurricane Ian crosses the Florida peninsula. Northeast winds will be
breezy,which will also bring down drier air from the north.
Critical fire weather conditions this afternoon will be situated
in southeast Alabama and portions of the Florida panhandle. Also
into southwest Georgia, elevated fire weather conditions will
exist this afternoon as RH values will be around 25-30 percent.
Slightly higher RH values are expected for Thursday and Friday,
although winds will remain elevated.

Forecasts for Hurricane Ian continue to trend away from our area
with expected rainfall amounts on a decreasing trend. The expected
storm total is in the 1-2 inch across the far eastern portions of
our area from approximately Fitzgerald through Valdosta and down to
Cross City. These amounts would not result in significant
flooding concerns at this time.
