.SYNOPSIS...
Surface low pressure near the Virgina coast will affect the
area for much of the weekend. Building high pressure to the
north will slowly push the coastal storm southward during the
early to middle portion of next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
A mid level low will make its way from northern Virginia this
morning to the waters off the Middle Atlantic coast toward
daybreak on Sunday. A secondary surface low had developed in
southeastern Virginia during the night. It was drifting off the
coast this morning.
Few changes were needed with the update this morning with winds
and weather grids working out okay. Gusts along the coastal
areas over 50 mph at times. A couple river gages showing some
rises over the past few hours and will need to be watched.
The pressure gradient between the slow moving surface low and
an extensive area of high pressure centered in Quebec will
maintain a strong northeast wind in our region for today and
tonight. An easterly low level jet of 50+ knots will remain over
central and southern New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania and
Delaware. While the wind should not fully mix to the ground,
gusts of 45 to 50 MPH are possible in those areas so we will
keep the Wind Advisory in place. We have upgraded the Wind
Advisory to a High Wind Warning along the coastal strip of New
Jersey. With the wind coming right off the water, some gusts of
55 to 60 MPH are quite possible there.
Areas of rain will continue to affect our region today into
tonight. The potential for locally heavy rain is expected to be
on the decrease this morning as we lose the diffluent flow
aloft. The potential for localized flooding is also on the wane.
The clouds, rain and onshore flow will prevent temperatures
from rising above the lower and middle 50s today in much of our
region. Readings should not get out of the 40s in the Poconos
and in far northern New Jersey. Tonight's lows should favor the
40s, with some middle to upper 30s across our northern area.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Sunday will be another day with temperatures well below normal
as the closed mid-level low moves directly overhead. Through the
day Sunday, the closed low will slowly meander south as high
pressure over Quebec nudges south. In the morning hours of
Sunday, widespread precipitation will be across the region with
a very slow push south in the precip shield expected. As this
occurs, the core of the strong LLJ from Saturday will slowly
weaken and also sink south. Northeast winds 20 to 25 mph with
gusts of 25 to 40 mph will be possible. Another wind advisory
might be required along the coast Sunday thanks to the tight
pressure gradient. By Sunday afternoon, precipitation will
likely be ongoing across the coastal region with clearing
forecast over the Poconos. Unfortunately, this appears to be the
only area where clearing will take place. Even though
precipitation will end for the I-95 corridor Sunday afternoon,
clouds will remain.
Sunday night into Monday, mid-level heights will finally start
to rise across Ontario/ Quebec, giving the mid-level low a nudge
south. This will push the precipitation south of the I-95
corridor Monday morning and off the coast of NJ and DE by Monday
afternoon. Expect high temperatures near 60 degrees with partly
cloudy skies.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A closed upper level low will be the story in the extended as
guidance continues to advertise the low completely breaking off
from the main flow. As this occurs, pieces of vorticity from a
departing low over the Canadian Maritimes will be pulled
southwest towards the closed low. This will have the affect of
nudging the low level saturation northwest. This means the
forecast is slightly more cloudy than previously advertised
(especially towards coastal DE and NJ), but the forecast looks
mostly dry through Friday. Below normal temperatures at the
beginning of the period will quickly transition to above normal
by Friday as mid level heights rise due to a weak rex block
overhead.
On Tuesday, the closed mid-level low will be located just east
of NC with a potent mid-level ridge extending from southeast
Texas to Quebec. Across the western United States mid-level
heights will be rapidly falling as several upper level
disturbances move onshore. Pieces of vorticity will be pulled
southwest into the closed low Tuesday, which likely means more
clouds towards the coastal counties than previously forecast.
Expect high temperatures mostly in the 60s Tuesday, or below
normal for this time of year.
The vertically stacked low will continue to fill Wednesday and
become completely removed from the main flow. As this occurs,
mid- level heights will start to rise across the region, with
temperatures responding accordingly. This warming trend will
persist Thursday into Friday as the upper level low continues to
retrograde west. The mid-level ridge that was centered over the
central United States will migrate northeast and park over PA/
NJ. This will push high temperatures Friday close to 80 degrees
in many locations. Mostly dry weather is forecast Wednesday
through Friday.

.AVIATION /14Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...Mainly IFR with some periods of MVFR possible. Areas of
light to moderate rain. Northeast wind 15 to 20 knots with
gusts of 25 to 40 knots. Medium confidence.
Tonight...IFR, improving to MVFR. Decreasing areas of light
rain. Northeast wind 15 to 20 knots with gusts of 25 to 40
knots. Medium confidence.
Outlook...
Sunday and Sunday night... VFR conditions forecast across the
northern TAF sites with MVFR conditions further south. Rain and
drizzle for KTTN and south. Winds out of the northeast gusting
to 30 kts. At KACY, or closer to the coast wind gusting to 35
kts. Moderate confidence.
Monday thru Wednesday... VFR for most of the area. Towards KACY
some MVFR conditions possible early Monday before slowly
lifting to VFR. Northeast winds Gusty NE winds 15 to 25 kts
closer to 30 kts near the shore. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
A Storm Warning is in effect for the coastal waters of New
Jersey and Delaware, and for Delaware Bay through tonight. The
northeast wind is forecast to increase to 30 to 35 knots with
gusts near 50 knots. Waves on our ocean waters will likely build
to 10 to 15 feet. Waves on Delaware Bay should generally
increase to 2 to 5 feet, with waves near 8 feet close to the
mouth of the bay.
Outlook...
Sunday... Gale conditions likely. Northeast winds 30 to 35 kts
with gusts up to 45 kts. Seas 11 to 15 ft. Rain.
Monday... Gale conditions likely across the Atlantic Ocean
waters. Small craft advisory conditions across the Delaware Bay.
Northeast winds 25 to 30 kts with gust 30 to 40 kts. Seas 10 to
14 ft. Periods of rain.
Tuesday... Winds will finally start to fall below gale warning
criteria. Northeast winds around 25 kts with gusts up to 35 kts.
Seas 9 to 12 ft.
Wednesday... Northeast winds around 20 kts in the morning
relaxing to 15 to 20 kts by the afternoon. Small craft advisory
conditions likely. Seas 6 to 9 ft.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A prolonged period of onshore flow looks to continue for about
a week. High pressure will be anchored to the north, and slow
moving low pressure will remain to the south. This will be
responsible for multiple cycles of elevated tides and tidal
flooding. Beach erosion is also a concern with the prolonged
onshore flow.
Middlesex and Monmouth Counties...A Coastal Flood Advisory is
in effect 11 PM Saturday to 5 AM Sunday. Mostly advisory level
coastal flooding is forecast for Perth Amboy, Sandy Hook, and
Manasquan. Advisory level coastal flooding is forecast Saturday
evening into Sunday morning. The highest tidal departures appear
to be towards Manasquan where the high tide cycle Sunday
evening into Monday morning could again reach advisory level
conditions. The persistent northeast flow will likely result in
the back bays remaining elevated through at least Tuesday (e.g.,
Shrewsbury Bay).
Ocean County... A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from Noon
Saturday to 6 PM Saturday Evening. A Coastal Flood Warning is
also in effect from 11 PM Saturday evening to 7 AM Sunday
morning. A Coastal Flood Advisory was issued this morning for
Ocean County as Barnegat bay is already averaging a 1.3 ft
surge. This will easily place the Saturday afternoon high tide
above minor flood stage. The successive high tide Saturday
evening/ Sunday morning will be the most impactful with around
2.5 to 3.0 ft of surge forecast. The high tide cycles after this
will likely remain in minor flooding thanks to the persistent
northeast flow. Moderate tidal flooding could again be reached
Sunday evening/ Monday morning.
Atlantic and Cape May Counties... A Coastal Flood Warning is in
effect from 11 PM Saturday evening to 7 AM Sunday morning. The
Saturday evening/ Sunday morning high tide will likely be the
most impactful with the subsequent two high tide cycles having
lower astronomical high tides. Still though, minor coastal
flooding is likely through Monday. The back bays will also be
very slow to drain given the persistent onshore flow.
Sussex County (DE)... A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect from
11 PM Saturday evening to 7 AM Sunday morning. Minor level
coastal flooding is possible with the Saturday afternoon high
tide. At this point, confidence was not high enough for an
advisory, but this will need to be watched. The Saturday
evening/ Sunday morning high tide will likely be the highest,
but multiple rounds of coastal flooding is likely, with Rehoboth
and Indian River Bays remaining elevated through Tuesday.
Another coastal flood warning appears that it will be needed
Sunday evening/ Monday morning.
Cumberland County... A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from
midnight to 6 AM Sunday morning. There appears to be two
primary high tide cycles of concern. The first high tide cycle
of concern will be the Sunday morning high tide. The next high
tide cycle of concern will be Monday morning.
Kent County... A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect from 11 PM
Saturday evening to 7 AM Sunday morning. This decision was made
to upgrade Kent County to a warning given that Bowers Beach is
already running with a 2.3 ft storm surge. This will likely
increase to 3.2 to 3.5 ft by early Sunday morning. The highest
level high tide will likely be the Sunday morning high tide with
moderate coastal flooding forecast. Minor level coastal
flooding will then be possible through Monday.
New Castle and Salem Counties...A Coastal Flood Warning is in
effect from 2 AM to 8 AM Sunday morning. This decision was made
to upgrade New Castle and Salem Counties to a warning given that
Reedy Point is already running a 1.3 ft storm surge. This will
likely increase to 2.5 to 2.8 ft by early Sunday morning. The
highest level high tide will likely be the Sunday morning high
tide with moderate coastal flooding forecast. Minor level
coastal flooding will then be possible through Monday.
Gloucester, Camden, Northwestern Burlington, Delaware,
Philadelphia, and Lower Bucks Counties... A Coastal Flood
Advisory is in effect from 6 AM to 11 AM Sunday morning.
Multiple round of advisory level coastal flooding will be
possible through Monday.
