.SYNOPSIS...10/729 PM.
Gusty north to northeast winds will continue through Friday with
warming temperatures through Saturday. After some cooling on
Sunday, temperatures are expected to remain above normal through
next week, with gusty north winds at times.

.SHORT TERM (THU-SUN)...10/828 PM.
The latest satellite imagery shows an upper-level trough digging
through Arizona this evening, while upstream ridging aloft is
building into the Pacific Northwest. Offshore flow is in place
across the region this evening and showing signs of strengthening
based upon the latest gradient trends. Gusty and potentially
damaging Santa Ana winds will continue to develop tonight and
continue into Friday morning. 850 mb winds increase to 50 knots
overnight and 950 mb winds increase to near 45 knots at the same
time subsidence start to build in the wake of the trough. No
changes are planned for the current headlines and all the
headlines remain intact for now.
A warming trend will develop over the coming days as ridging aloft
builds in over the region. The ridge axis looks to move overhead
on Saturday, then a brief cool down will occur for Sunday.

A weak trough will move through the Pac NW Saturday night into
Sunday, flattening the ridge and increasing onshore flow. Coast
and valleys will see 3-6 degrees of cooling with a possibility of
some morning low clouds and fog but little change across the
interior except for increasing afternoon onshore breezes. By
Sunday afternoon and evening onshore flow will be rapidly
shifting to the north as high pressure off the Pacific moves in
following the earlier trough. Will likely see advisory level
Sundowner winds developing across srn Santa Barbara County and
gusty northwest winds along the Central Coast. The downsloping
winds in srn Santa Barbara County may lead to some localized
warming there late in the day.
.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...10/149 PM.
The ridge will continue to build into Monday resulting in
temperatures bouncing back up several degrees. There should be
several valley areas getting close to 80 degrees Monday. Gusty
north to northwest winds expected across the mountains and
southern Santa Barbara County which likely will continue most of
next week with advisory level winds at times.
The pendulum shifts back to cooler on Tuesday as another weak
trough passes to the north. The GEFS has been trending weaker and
farther north with this one but there are still a handful of GEFS
and ECMWF ensembles members still showing some light rain across
northern SLO County Tuesday. Everywhere else just cooler with
increasing clouds.
Then turning warmer again for the latter half of the week as high
pressure aloft returns.

Across the outer waters near and north of the Channel Islands ,
Small Craft Advisory (SCA) winds will begin to decrease after
midnight. The exception will be further south, where gusty NE to
east winds will affect the southernmost outer waters. Additional
SCA winds will likely develop across the outer waters late
Saturday night through Monday.
Across the inner waters N of Pt. Sal, winds will be below SCA
levels through Saturday night. There is a 50% chance of SCA winds
Sunday afternoon and evening, and again on Tuesday.
Moderate to high confidence for the nearshore waters south of
Point conception. SCA level N-NE winds are expected later tonight
through midday Friday from Ventura to Santa Monica and out toward
Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands, as well as from Orange county out
to near Catalina Island. Winds between 20-25 kt winds with a
chance of 30 kt gusts are forecast, mainly near the Malibu
coastline and possibly as far north as Point Mugu. Steep, short-
period, breaking waves are expected during this time.
Offshore winds will subside over the nearshore waters Friday
afternoon through Saturday. There is a 30% chance of SCA-level
W-NW winds developing across sections of the inner waters
Saturday night or Sunday.
