A deep low pressure system moved across southern Wisconsin spreading snow across the Northland. The heaviest snow fell across northwestern Wisconsin beginning late in the afternoon of the 23rd and continuing overnight. Snowfall amounts ranged from 6 to 12 inches from southern Sawyer County to the Bayfield Peninsula. Some of the highest reports included 12 south of Phillips, 9.5 near Lorretta, 11 in Gile and 6 near Herbster. Strong north winds were seen behind the storm with sustained winds at 25 to 30 mph gusting to around 40 mph, creating dangerous blizzard-like conditions.
