Cold Canadian high pressure settled over the Northland the morning of the 18th with clear skies that allowed for excellent radiational cooling conditions. As the sun came up and the atmosphere began to mix, there was a brief period where winds combined with the very cold temperatures to produce dangerous wind chills.
