A short wave trough moved over the region bringing synoptic cooling and cloudiness with it. Drier fuels were still in place and locally breezy winds were expected, thus there was a small risk for wildfire development.

.SYNOPSIS...
Cooler temperatures through Tuesday with below normal
temperatures. Warming Wednesday with near normal temperatures
returning Thursday and Friday. Slight chance of showers over the
Shasta mountains Monday. Increased threat of showers and afternoon
thunderstorms over the mountains, and possibly Northern
Sacramento Valley, Tuesday.

.DISCUSSION...
Trough of low pressure moving through the area has brought high
cloudiness, moderate flow through the Delta and cooler
temperatures. The trough will continue to move east this evening
and clouds will clear from west to east this afternoon and
evening. The Delta breeze will continue moderate into the evening
hours before becoming weaker in the overnight hours. An isolated
shower may be possible later this afternoon along the coastal
range but for the most part expect dry conditions.

Synoptic cooling behind the front will bring cooler temperatures
to the mountains on Sunday. For the valley temperatures should
warm slightly over todays highs as a result of having a weaker
Delta breeze and less cloud cover with the exception of the far
north end of the valley which should see slight cooling.

On Monday a trough will deepen over the area to continue cooler
than normal temperatures but slightly cooler temperatures than
Sunday. There may even be a few showers over the northern
mountains in the afternoon. A stronger wave will move around the
trough to strengthen the low over NorCal on Tuesday and continue
cooler than normal temperatures that will end up near Monday's
highs. Some showers and thunderstorms will be possible mainly over
the mountains but also the north end of the Sacramento valley
Tuesday afternoon and evening.

.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Wednesday THROUGH Saturday)...

Ensemble guidance is in good agreement the trough influencing the
region early in the week will begin to push east as high pressure
builds back into our area starting Wednesday. This means
temperatures will warm back to about normal by next weekend.

VFR conditions next 24 hours. Local south to west surface wind
gusts 20-30 kts increasing after 20Z, strongest vicinity Delta and
higher elevations northern Sierra Nevada.

On September 7, a fire broke out in Butte County and burned 496 acres of land, destroying 2 buildings one residential and outbuilding. The fire grew fast enough to warrant mandatory evacuations and road closures, which were all eventually lifted by the evening of September 9th. The fire was declared contained on September 13, 2019 at 6PM PST.
