Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford CA 306 PM PST Sun Feb 3 2019 .SYNOPSIS... A series of storms will continue to bring hazardous weather to Central California through Tuesday. The first system exiting the region during the day Sunday will be followed by a second system moving through overnight into Monday. A third, but colder storm system will affect the region Monday night and Tuesday which will drop snow levels significantly. Drier conditions return to the region by midweek. && .DISCUSSION... Convective activity is beginning to increase across the area ahead of the next impulse dropping toward the US west coast. This activity is partially diurnally driven and will decrease during the evening. The approaching low pressure trough is progged to move inland later tonight into Monday morning bringing another round of rain to the area. This will bring another 1 to 2 inches of rain in the foothill areas and will possibly cause some local flooding issues. Snow levels running around 5 to 6 thousand ft will lower to around 4 to 5 thousand ft tonight and additional significant accumulations of snow can be expected at the higher elevations. Winds in the SJ Valley will also pick up briefly late tonight with the incoming system but expected to remain below advisory criteria. Thunderstorms will be possible as well during the afternoon and evening Monday. The main upper low is progged to move inland across northern CA later Monday into Tuesday, continuing precipitation chances for our area. Snow levels will lower more significantly with this colder system moving through. Snow could fall as low as 2500 ft Tuesday and fall even further Wednesday as some showers linger behind the departing system. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Sierra zones through 4 pm Tuesday for the additional heavy snow accumulation. A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect for the Kern Co mountains through 4 am Wednesday for snow which may also accumulate on the passes by Tuesday as snow levels continue to lower. After lingering precipitation Wednesday, shortwave ridging brings dry weather into the end of the week. There are model differences, but indications of yet another storm system may impact our area by next weekend. && .AVIATION... Areas of MVFR visibility due to rain and mist in showers along with isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
