Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 312 AM PDT Tue Sep 10 2019 .SYNOPSIS...An area of low pressure moving through Nevada tonight will produce breezy to locally windy conditions and a few showers across south central Nevada. Below normal temperatures today and Wednesday will warm back above normal for the weekend. Guidance coming into better agreement that another system will impact the area early next week with more wind and cooler temperatures. && .DISCUSSION...through next Monday. Low level moisture that was lying just south of the area 24 hours ago did sweep northward. Surface dewpoints are back in the 40s and low 50s across eastern Lincoln, Clark, eastern San Bernardino and Mohave counties this morning. However, moisture influx has only been significant enough to generate some cloudiness and maybe a very light shower in Mohave County. Although, have seen a few thunderstorms in southwest Utah. Trough progged to deepen over Nevada late this afternoon/evening before lifting east across Utah Wednesday. Strongest wind field will be over northwest Arizona and southeast Nevada today. Thanks to the influx of low level moisture, min RH values will remain above critical thresholds. Further west where RH values will be lower winds will not likely meet criteria. May again see a brief downslope event late this afternoon/evening along the eastern slopes of the srn Sierra with gusts up to 35 mph. The only active product today will be our Lake Wind Advisory as yesterday northern Lake Mohave buoy did briefly report 2 foot significant wave heights. Forcing associated with deepening trough will trigger a few showers in Esmeralda, central Nye and Lincoln counties this evening. The area will lie under a dry zonal flow with temperatures quickly rebounding back to above normal this weekend. NAEFS and GEFS solutions leading to higher confidence that another trough will impact the area early next week with mainly stronger winds and cooler temperatures. && .FIRE WEATHER...The increase in low level moisture into southeast Nevada and northwest Arizona will keep humidity values above critical thresholds today, even as similar wind speeds are forecast. Another brief period of downslope winds with gusts up to 35 mph could impact ongoing wildfires along the eastern Sierra Slopes late this afternoon and evening. On Wednesday, winds will decrease and dry conditions are slated to continue into the weekend. Another system early next week will be associated with stronger winds and cooler temperatures. && .AVIATION...For McCarran...South to southwest winds will persist through the remainder of the overnight hours with speeds dropping to around 6-9 kts. We may have a period of southeast winds between 13- 15z of winds up to 10 kts, but confidence is low for this to occur. South winds are expected to increase after 16z with speeds 20-30 kts. These winds are expected to last through the afternoon and into the evening before diminishing somewhat overnight. No operationally significant clouds expected. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...South to southwest Winds are expected to increase late this morning over most areas with speeds generally 20-30 kts. Higher winds are expected across portions of the western Mojave Desert and northwest Arizona where gusts to 35 kts will be possible. No operationally significant clouds expected, although smoke aloft from the Taboose Fire in the Sierra Nevada could reduce slant range visibility, especially in the Owens Valley. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...A low pressure system will bring cooler and windier weather through tonight.
