An area of low pressure over the South Dakota/Wyoming border during the morning hours moved quickly northeast through the day to just north of Lake Superior by the evening. This low pulled a cold front through the Minnesota Arrowhead region and northwest Wisconsin. A few strong to severe storms developed ahead of the front, but no damage reports were received. Strong winds accompanied the cold front as it moved through the region. Wind gusts to 45-55 mph were reported with the cold front passage with the strongest winds being seen between 9PM and 1AM. Numerous trees were downed leading to power outages and damage in Cook County with substantial damage being reported at a campground near Grand Marais.

Strong winds associated with a cold frontal passage lead to numerous downed trees that knocked out power to over 1,000 customers in the area. Some customers did not have power restored for over 2 days, making it the longest outage in the area in almost a decade. An RV park near the Bay of Grand Marias sustained damage with trees falling onto RVs. A peak gust of 56 mph was reported at 10:13 pm at the Grand Marais Harbor.
