.SHORT TERM...(Today through Monday)

Main concern over the short term will be the potential for a
widespread high wind event late tonight through Monday. South to
southwesterly flow aloft will increase across the region during
the day with the sfc pressure gradient strengthening over Carbon
county. Went ahead and issued a High Wind Warning for the
Ferris/Seminoe/Shirley mtns from late morning through the
evening as this is a favorable pattern out there. The models
continue to show the upper trough lifting northeastward from the
Great Basin into the northern plains. Sfc cyclogenesis occurs by
midday Monday over the Dakotas, with the pressure gradient really
increasing between 12-18Z Monday. The 850 mb CAG-CPR gradient
ramps up to 70-75 meters by 15Z Monday and stays around this level
through the day. Soundings continue to indicate deep layer mixing
and strong winds aloft (700 mb winds of 45-55 kts). With CONSMOS
guidance 30-40 kts over all areas to the east of the Laramie Range,
was confident enough to issue a High Wind Watch across all plains
zones from Monday morning through the early evening. Future shifts
may consider adding zones further west across Carbon county.
The other story with this system will be the quick shot at snow
across mainly the mtns. Have snow amounts of 6-8 inches from late
tonight through Monday morning and combined with the strong
westerly winds, hazardous travel conditions will exist across the
Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges. Issued a Winter Weather Advisory
for the mtns with blowing snow a significant concern. Held off a
winter weather headline for the Arlington area as accumulations
will be rather light (less than inch), with blowing snow still
mentioned in the Wind Watch. Will let the day shift determine
whether a separate Winter Weather Advisory will be needed for the
Arlington zone. The only other change was to increase PoPs some
over Converse/Niobrara counties on Monday morning.
.LONG TERM...(Monday Night through Saturday)

Models continue to point toward high winds returning to the wind
prone areas late Monday night after a brief respite in the evening.
The sfc pressure gradient will remain around 60m in the wake of the
departing low pressure system, with the upper jet moving overhead as
high pressure begins to build overhead from the west. With 60 to
70kts progged in the 750-700mb layer, would not be surprised to see
gusts approach 70mph in the wind prone areas as sunrise approaches.
These winds are expected to persist in the wind prone areas through
much of Tuesday, and could be higher at times through midday with
the combination of a strengthening inversion just above mountain top
focusing the mountain wave turbulence near the surface, and good
mixing. Forecast soundings also show good mixing potential up to
nearly 600mb within a deeper layer of subsidence across the plains
on Tuesday, so expect high winds to occur over this area too. Timing
of onset of strong winds across the plains will be tricky though as
soundings do not show much of a sfc inversion developing Monday
night. Thus, it wont take much to mix the strong winds reach to the
sfc once the sun rises. Thinking gusts across the plains will range
55 to 65 mph Tuesday morning through the afternoon. Lastly for
Monday night through early Tuesday, Pacific moisture will
accompany the upper jet as it moves overhead, so maintained
chances for snow showers in the mountains and high valleys.
Doubt the winds will let up much in the wind prone areas Tuesday
night, and the latest model guidance indicates that periodic high
winds could continue here through Saturday as zonal flow with
embedded shortwave features moves across the northern CONUS. The
llvl pressure gradient should remain relatively high in this
pattern. A cold front looks to drop south across the plains sometime
Thursday/Thursday night which will give us a break in the winds. But
that front will quickly push back east sometime on Friday, bringing
a return of strong winds to the area. Windy conditions look to spill
out into the plains and also the high valleys most afternoons as
models are showing a warm and well mixed boundary layer each day.
With the front moving west, then east across the plains on Thursday
night through Friday, could see a few rain/snow showers develop
during this time.
Bottom line, it will be a very windy, warm, and dry week for
southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska. Fire weather may become a
concern across the plains as we progress through the week, if and
when the grass fuels dry out enough.

VFR conditions will prevail through this evening with gusty
southwest winds of 25-35kts expected west of I-25. Snow/rain showers
will develop over the high country this evening as a cold front
approaches, and will continue through the overnight period as the
front moves east. Becoming quite windy across the area Monday
morning. Some MVFR cigs/vsbys possible around KRWL later this
evening with snow showers in the area.

Minimum humidity values will fall to 15-20 percent from Cheyenne to
Sidney this afternoon. South to southwest wind gusts will mostly be
below 20 mph. Much colder temperatures along with very windy
conditions will spread across the region on Monday. An elevated
fire weather threat will exist over the southern Nebraska Panhandle
on Monday afternoon as humidity values fall to 15-20 percent and
winds gust to around 60 mph.

Very windy conditions will impact portions of southeast Wyoming
today and tonight. Wind gusts to 60 mph are likely in northern
portions of Carbon County today, including the Ferris and Seminoe
Mountains. Strong winds are then possible in the wind prone areas
near Arlington, Bordeaux, and Buford/Vedauwoo tonight, with gusts
up to 65 mph possible.
Periods of light to moderate snowfall along with areas of blowing
can be expected over the Sierra Madre and Snowy ranges tonight.
Accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are likely, and winds gusting to
55 mph will reduce visibility to less than one half mile at times.

Very windy conditions will impact much of southeast Wyoming from
Monday through Tuesday, mainly during the daytime hours. Gusts up
