What happened

The episode as NWS LUB wrote it up.

Scattered severe thunderstorms erupted this afternoon along and ahead of a dryline over the western and northern South Plains. A few of these storms were supercellular with one long-lived supercell that tracked from New Home east to Dickens and near Guthrie before eventually dissipating north of Seymour after sunset. For about four hours, this supercell was a prolific hail producer and created extensive damage particularly in Dickens where hail up to tennis ball size stripped trees, shattered car windows and damaged building rooftops. Farther north, clusters of severe storms and some supercells produced severe hail, albeit with less ferocity than the long-lived supercell.

ACROSS THE SW SOUTH PLAINS. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS THIS
ACTIVITY IS THE RESULT OF MID-LEVEL COOLING/ASCENT EXITING SERN NM
AND ENHANCING A LAYER OF LL MOIST ASCENT EXTENDING FROM MORTON
SOUTHEAST TO O'DONNELL. THIS AREA OF ELEVATED CONVECTION SHOULD
CONTINUE ADVANCING NNE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND PROBABLY BECOME
SURFACE BASED AS IT REACHES AREAS CLOSER TO THE HIGHWAY 70
CORRIDOR WHERE CONVECTIVE TEMPS ARE ALREADY BEING APPROACHED.
LAPS INDICATES SBCAPE IN THESE AREAS AROUND 2500 J/KG WITH SOME
SIZABLE CINH AS EXPECTED...HOWEVER AS THE AFOREMENTIONED MID-LEVEL

NORTHERN ROLLING PLAINS. INCREASING ASCENT WILL EXIT NEW MEXICO
THIS AFTERNOON AND INTERACT WITH A MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS
AHEAD OF A DRYLINE. SUPERCELL STORMS WITH VERY LARGE HAIL TO 2

Golf ball size hail began falling in Dickens around 1717 CST and for the next 13 minutes proceeded to grow to tennis ball size resulting in extensive damage to cars. Many trees were stripped of their leaves and some homes would likely require new roofs.
