.SYNOPSIS...
A stationary front will remain over the Gulf Coast states to the
Carolinas through the week as it slowly dissipates. Low pressure
over the Northeast Gulf is expected to drift west to the central
Gulf Coast by late week. A persistent moist wind flow from the
Atlantic Wednesday night and Thursday will shift to being front the
Gulf next weekend. Expect a generally rainy week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 435 PM: Scattered SHRA/TSRA cover most of the CWFA attm. Anvil
debris covers most of the eastern Piedmont under a solid shield,
with the area underneath having largely been worked over with
clustered convection over the past 3-4 hrs. The Charlotte metro
and the rest of the I-77 corridor may struggle to see additional
development accordingly; outflow boundaries do linger but there
may not be enough remnant energy for new updrafts. Further west
the slow-moving and mostly discrete cells are expected to continue
into evening. Meso model consensus suggests a fairly rapid decline
beginning around 03z to stratiform precip.

Otherwise, low-level flow will continue to pick up out of the
south tonight adding the upslope component, and then continuing to
back out of the SE by tomorrow. PW values are not progged to drop
back below 2" until after the end of the near-term period. CAMs
suggest a little bit of a lull through the overnight period, and
then pick it back up again tomorrow especially along the eastern
slopes as that southeasterly flow picks up. With extra sunshine we
ended up with this morning, sbCAPE values are widespread between
2000-3000 J/kg this afternoon, though not much in the way of dCAPE
or thermodynamic profiles supportive of severe convection, but we
have had some reports of small hail. Main concern will continue
to be heavy rain. Little bit of a lull overnight tonight but FFA
was already out through 12z, and with another round of convection
expected tomorrow have opted to go ahead and extend it through
midnight tomorrow night (into the short term period), and added
Union NC.

Should see temperatures tomorrow several degrees below seasonal
normals with the widespread clouds and increasing convection during
the day.

&&

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 230 PM Sunday...A weak upper level disturbance will drift NW
from central FL to FL/AL border by 00z Thursday. The surface and low-
level reflection of this wave basically follows the same path. This
will keep our area under a persistent SELY flow with plenty of
moisture out of the Atlantic. The 12z guidance agrees on some drier
air wrapping around the FL low circulation, and an overall lull in
precip coverage/intensity from about 6z Tuesday to 12z Wednesday.
There should still be enough upslope cloudiness and light rain to
hold an in situ wedge for most of the day, keeping temps below
normal.

On Wednesday...depending on the exact position and intensity of the
aforementioned wave, another slug of high-PWAT air should push into
the area from the SE, with 850 mb flow around 20-25 kts. The
operational models agree on an up-tick in QPF, especially along the
Blue Ridge escarpment. PoPs will remain elevated above climo, with
QPF enhanced in the SELY upslope areas. Another Flash Flood Watch
may be needed again for Wednesday into Wednesday night. Lows will be
above normal, and highs Wednesday below normal under plenty of
clouds.

&&

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
At 200 PM Sunday: On Wednesday evening an upper ridge will be along
the southeast coast as a weak upper low will be over the Florida
panhandle. The weak low is expected to drift to the west and be over
the Mississippi Delta by Friday. The combined affects of the ridge
off the Atlantic coast and the low along the Gulf will keep a moist
flow over our area through next weekend.

At the surface...the stationary frontal is forecast to remain draped
around the SE from the Gulf states to the Carolinas and will
gradually dissipate through next weekend. Another weak cold front is
forecast to slide south from the Great Lakes Thursday and be aligned
over the Ohio River on Sunday. The weak surface low over the north
Gulf Coast may get caught up in the SW to NE flow as the front gets
deeper toward the SE. The ECMWF takes the Gulf low farther west
toward Texas before it gets caught in the developing transport near
this new front. Both the ECMWF and GFS have waves of low pressure
passing NE along or near the front next weekend with the GFS having
more affect on our area late in the weekend. The overall 850mb wind
flow is expected to be upslope from the SE toward our mountains on
Thursday then shifting to southerly Friday and over the weekend as
the Gulf low moves to the central Gulf Coast.

Temperatures will be affected by the thick cloud cover with Maxes a
little below normal and Mins a category above normal.

&&

.AVIATION /21Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
At KCLT: Widespread SHRA/TSRA generally expected through the
period, with occasional breaks. TEMPO TSRA will cover the small
chance that a new cell will develop this evening; with the area
having seen such dense coverage earlier this aftn, and a thick
cirrus debris shield now overhead, any new development should
remain brief/isold. SHRA overnight and PROB30 tomorrow. Expect
typical restrictions associated with SHRA/TSRA. Should see cigs
drop to IFR and probably LIFR overnight, with slow improvement
Monday. Winds generally SE to ESE through the period around 5kt.

Elsewhere: Similar precip/convective trends to KCLT, but with VCTS
for a good chunk of the period. KAVL will likely see LIFR vsby in
addition to cigs. As with KCLT, generally ESE to SE winds through
the period.

Outlook: A frontal boundary will remain stalled near or just south
of the area into the early week. Deep moisture will persist along
with strengthening southeasterly upslope flow. Thunderstorms, heavy
rain, and IFR restrictions could become increasingly widespread
through the week.
