Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 850 PM PDT SAT AUG 6 2016 .SYNOPSIS...There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in far northeast Mohave County through Sunday. Elsewhere, expect slightly above normal temperatures and afternoon breezes through Monday. Moisture surges northward up the Colorado River Valley and northwest Arizona Tuesday night leading to an increase thunderstorms Wednesday through Friday mainly over northwest Arizona. && .UPDATE...Isolated thunderstorms over northern Mohave county dissipated early this evening with only lingering cumulus remaining. The forecast trends look good and no immediate changes are needed. Attention the next few days will be turned toward the developing tropical depression off the central Mexico coast which is forecast to move across the mouth of the Gulf of California and southern Baja early in the coming week...leading to a surge of moisture into Arizona with the western moisture boundary brushing the Colorado River Valley. -Adair && .DISCUSSION... Slow drying in Lincoln/Clark and Mohave Counties continues in response to upper trough along the west coast. Thunderstorms today have been along and east of a line from Kingman to St. George. Expect one or two thunderstorms to persist near Mount Trumbull and Pipe Spring Natl Monument in northern Mohave County into the evening before dissipating. For Sunday, probably just enough moisture/instability present for a slight chance of thunderstorms in northern Mohave County near Mount Trumbull and Mount Logan. Elsewhere, dry, breezy and warmer Sunday. Entire area looks to be dry on Monday. Main issue during the middle of the week is how quickly moisture returns to northwest Arizona, then just how far west the moisture may spread. Both the GFS/ECMWF in decent agreement indicating the surge of low level moisture will move out of southwest Arizona north up the Colorado River Valley and Mohave County Tuesday night. Eastern Lincoln, Clark and San Bernardino Counties looks to be the battleground area between southwest flow associated with a trough to our west and moist southerly flow. Decided to increase POPs across Mohave County Wednesday and Thursday along with spread the threat of precipitation west, closer to the river and Lake Mead Natl Recreation Area. Will not be surprised if a westward expansion in our POPs continues if the GFS/ECMWF stay consistent. Intrusion of moisture looks to be rather quick as both the GFS/ECMWF have not QPF in Mohave County next Saturday. Temperatures will peak early in the week then lower over the second half due to more clouds/higher surface dewpoints. && .AVIATION...For McCarran...South wind gusts around 20 kts expected to continue into early evening before diminishing. Afternoon gusts between 20-25 kts expected at 19z Sunday. No significant ceiling expected Sunday or Monday. For the rest of southern Nevada...northwest Arizona...and southeast California...Isolated thunderstorms into this evening and again Sunday afternoon will be confined to far northeast San Bernardino County. The remainder of the region will be dry with no significant ceilings Sunday or Monday. South winds around 15-25 kts into this evening and again after 19z Sunday. && .FIRE WEATHER...Isolated thunderstorms are expected to be confined to far northeast Mohave County into this evening and again Sunday. The entire region will be dry Monday. An area of low pressure over the western states will help generate south wind gusts of 20-30 mph each afternoon through Monday.
