A strong arctic ridge of high pressure settled into the region from the Alberta and Saskatchewan prairies on Friday, December 16th and Saturday, December 17th. Appreciable winds and temperatures in the range of 0 to -30 degrees Fahrenheit yielded wind chills as low as the -40 to -55 degree range Friday night into Saturday morning.
