A combination of periods of persistent and strong northeast winds, the proxigean spring tides, and a full moon produced several days of elevated high tides. A few of the high tide cycles produced flooding along the southeast Georgia coast, especially in and around the Tybee Island area.

The morning high tide reached 9.71 feet mean lower low water at the Fort Pulaski tide gauge and resulted in flooding on Highway 80. The road was closed with approximately 10 inches of water on the roadway near Lazaretto Creek, and there was also 4 to 6 inches of water reported across the road between mile markers 30 and 31.
