An upper level trough moved through between Jan. 8-9 and brought snowfall to the Clearwater Mountains. Northwest flow set up by Jan. 10 which triggered moderate to heavy snow bands that were oriented west-northwest to east-southeast. The snow bands brought the heaviest snowfall across eastern portions of both Clearwater and Idaho Counties.

The COOP observer located 1 mile north of Dixie measured 8.8 of total storm snowfall with 0.71 of precipitation. The Savage Pass SNOTEL at 6,170 ft., located 5 miles southeast of Powell, recorded 9 of snowfall with 1.10 of snow water equivalent.

The Pierce COOP reported 5.5 of snow and 1.28 of precipitation during this event. The Elk Butte SNOTEL at 5,690 ft., located 5 miles northeast of Elk River measured 15 of snow from Jan 7-10.

The Grangeville COOP observer reported 1 of total snowfall while the observer located 2 miles west-southwest of Cottonwood recorded 1.2. Web cams at Greer Grade indicated slick conditions at times during the morning of Jan. 9.
