Despite this, drought conditions held steady through the month of October with much of the region experiencing drought conditions of Severe (D2) or less. A swath of Extreme (D3) drought conditions remained draped across western Hidalgo, eastern, the southeast corner of Jim Hogg and the far SW corner of Brooks counties. Exceptional (D4) drought conditions were confined to a small area in far SW Hidalgo County and far SE Starr County.

After beneficial rains in September, most of Jim Hogg County was covered by Severe (D2) drought conditions by the first of October. An area of Extreme (D3) drought conditions held on in the SE corner of the county, while Moderate (D1) drought conditions spread across the western and northern county borders. Drought conditions held steady throughout the month.

After beneficial rains in September, a variety of drought conditions were spread across Starr County during the month of October. The western half of the county was comprised primarily of Moderate (D1) drought conditions, but an area of Dry (D0) conditions emerged in the SW corner of the county. The eastern half of the county was divided by a stripe of Severe (D2) drought conditions across the center of the county, a swath of Extreme (D3) drought conditions along the eastern county border, and an area of Exceptional (D4) drought conditions in the very far SE corner of the county. Drought conditions held steady throughout the month.
