Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.
On January 29th, a cold, dry air mass was in place across northern Alabama around daybreak. At the same time, a low pressure system was developing along a quasi stationary boundary extending from southern Louisiana east through southern Georgia. As this area of low pressure pushed east into southern Georgia through the day, a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow developed across northern Alabama. This mix of winter precipitation caused up to 0.25 inch of ice to accumulate, mainly north of the Tennessee River. In addition, between 1 and 2 inches of snowfall accumulated in some of these same locations. Elsewhere, across northern Alabama, scattered locations received less than one half of an inch of snow and sleet.

A mix of rain, sleet, and snow on Friday morning changed to primarily freezing rain, sleet and rain during the day on Friday. Up to 0.25 inches of ice accumulated on area trees and elevated surfaces, paritcularly in western portions of the county by the early afternoon hours. In addition, around 1 inch of snowfall also accumulated on grassy surfaces and some secondary roadways.
Tragically, two people died in a wreck between a Chevrolet HHR LT and a tractor trailer on U.S. 43 near CR 140, due to these slick conditions.

A mixture of rain, sleet, and snow that moved into the county Friday morning continued before changing over to mainly snow and sleet during the day on Friday. Temperatures remained just warm enough for only minor accumulations of snowfall between a trace and one half of an inch in the early afternoon hours. The highest snowfall/sleet accumulation reported occurred in Ford City.

A mixture of rain, sleet, and snow began across the county Friday morning and transitioned to a mixture of freezing rain, sleet, and snow through the day on Friday. This produced minor accumulations of snowfall and sleet between a trace and one quarter of an inch by the early afternoon hours.

A mix of rain, sleet, and snow Friday morning changed to primarily freezing rain during the day on Friday. This produced accumulation of ice between 0.25 and 0.35 inches on trees and elevated surfaces, along with a few tenths of an of snowfall through the early afternoon hours. The highest ice accumulation of 0.35 inches was reported in the Ardmore community.
One elderly woman was injured in a wreck due to the slick conditions.

A mix of rain, sleet, and snow Friday morning transitioned to mainly freezing rain, sleet, and snow, across Madison county through the day on Friday, particularly in the higher elevations. Up to 0.2 inches of ice was reported in the Harvest community, along with up to 1 inch of snowfall/sleet in other locations in Madison county by the early afternoon hours. The highest snowfall/sleet total, mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces, occurred in New Market, where 1 inch of accumulation was reported.

Up to .2 inches of ice was reported on trees and elevated surfaces in parts of the county, as well as around 0.5 inches of snowfall and sleet by the early afternoon hours. 0.2 inches of icing was reported in the Cartersville community. 0.8 inches of snowfall was reported in Ider.
