High Wind in American Samoa, April 1 to 4, 2009
A strong pressure gradient over the islands generated by an active monsoonal trough southwest of the islands and a streghtening ridge located northeast of the islands. Northwesterly winds of 30 to 35 kt with gust up to 50 kt were generated by the strong pressure gradient.

A strong pressure gradient over the islands generated by an active monsoonal trough southwest of the islands and a streghtening ridge located northeast of the islands. Northwesterly winds of 30 to 35 kt with gust up to 50 kt were generated by the strong pressure gradient. The episodes lasted for 4 days (1 April - 4 April). Several island farmers reported minor crop damages, for instance, bananas, cucumbers, taros, breadfruits and etc. The Department of Public Safety reported tree branches and other kinds of debris on the roads. No other damages were reported.
