A deep upper low dropped southeastward from the Pacific Northwest, then slowly tracked eastward along the U.S./Mexico border. As the system approached southern New Mexico, a back door cold front brought in low level cold air from the plains. Heavy snow was not nearly as widespread as expected, but 4 inches did fall in the Silver City area (6000 feet ASL).
