What happened

The episode as NWS CRP wrote it up.

A thunderstorm produced wind damage near the intersection of Ocean Drive and Robert in Corpus Christi. A section of styrofoam roof at the high rise Catalina Condominiums was blown off. As a result, rain water seeped into several of the units. A small air conditioning unit was also blown off the roof. Debris from the roof closed Ocean Drive for several hours. Two large tree limbs were also blown down at the Seaside Cemetary. A NWS storm survey was inconclusive as to whether the damage was caused by a small microburst or elevated funnel cloud. Wind speeds were estimated around 55 mph. No other damage was found around this developed intersection.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CORPUS CHRISTI TX
426 AM CDT FRI OCT 19 2007

.SHORT TERM (TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY)...AS OF 08Z THE COLD FNT WAS
JUST TO THE SOUTH OF A VCT TO COT LINE. THE FNT WL ACCELERATE SWD
EARLY THIS MORNING AND WL CLEAR THE ENTIRE CWA BY 14Z TDA. ISOLATED
TO SCATTERED CONVECTION WL OCCUR ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE FNT GIVEN
THE WEAKLY CAPPED HIGH CAPE AIRMASS POISED TO THE SOUTH OF THE FNT.
ONCE THE FNT PUSHES THROUGH THE CWA...RAPID DRYING IS EXPECTED TO
COMMENCE. TEMPS WL ONLY COOL SLIGHTLY FROM YDA. A MORE TYPICAL
OCTOBER NIGHT IS EXPECTED TNT GIVEN THE VERY DRY CONDITIONS AND
LIGHT WINDS. THE MOISTURE STARTS TO COME BACK ON SAT BUT STILL
EXPECTING A DRY AND WARM DAY WITH A STRONG RDG AXIS IN FIRM CONTROL.

&&

.AVIATION (TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY)...MVFR AND IFR CONDITIONS WL
QUICKLY END THIS MORNING ACROSS THE SRN PORTIONS OF THE RGN AS A
COLD FNT QUICKLY RACES SWD. CONVECTION WL LAST 1-2 HOURS ALONG AND
AHEAD OF THE SWD MOVING COLD FNT. VFR CONDITIONS WL BE WIDESPREAD
BY 13Z AS RAPID DRYING OCCURS BEHIND THE FNT. VFR CONDITIONS WL
THEN CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY.

&&

.MARINE (TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY)...SCEC CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED
BEHIND THE EARLY MORNING FNT TDA. CONVECTION WL END BY 14Z ACROSS
THE OFFSHORE WATERS. THE FLOW WL THEN BEGIN TO VEER BY LATE AFTN AND
INTO TNT. ONSHORE FLOW WL ONCE AGAIN INCREASE ON SAT AHEAD OF THE
NEXT SYSTEM. SEAS WL GENERALLY AVG 4-5 FT.

&&

.LONG TERM (SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY)...MOISTURE WILL SURGE
BACK NORTH ON SUNDAY AS ONSHORE FLOW STRENGTHENS AHEAD OF A POTENT
AND DEEPENING UPPER LEVEL TROUGH COMING OUT OF THE ROCKIES. THERE
IS A BIG DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE GFS AND NAM WITH REGARDS TO HOW
FAST THIS MOISTURE RETURN HAPPENS SUNDAY...WITH THE NAM SLOWER...
BUT PWS SHOULD INCREASE TO OVER 1.5 OVER THE COASTAL COUNTIES AND
MARINE ZONES DURING THE AFTERNOON. THEREFORE WOULD NOT BE
SURPRISED TO SEE STREAMER SHOWERS DURING THE DAY OVER THE COASTAL
BEND...AND THEN PICKING UP SUNDAY NIGHT OVER THE WATER AHEAD OF
THE COLD FRONT.

THE FIRST STRONG COLD FRONT OF THE SEASON WILL ARRIVE SOMETIME
MONDAY MORNING. THERE CONTINUES TO BE TIMING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN
OPERATIONAL MODELS WITH REGARDS TO FRONTAL PASSAGE...WITH THE
ECMWF AND GFS ABOUT 6 HOURS BEHIND THE NAM...WHICH HAS THE FRONT
INTO THE GULF BY 12Z MON. DID SLOW THE FRONT UP FROM PREVIOUS
PACKAGE...BUT NOT QUIET AS SLOW AS THE 12Z GFS. PLENTY OF MOISTURE
AND FORCING WILL BE IN PLACE TO PRODUCE SCATTERED SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ALONG AND EVEN BEHIND THE FRONT EARLY MONDAY
MORNING.

WINDY POST FRONTAL CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA MONDAY.
NAM WAS SHOWING NEARLY 50 KTS AT 925 MB ACROSS THE EASTERN HALF OF
THE CWA WITH THE GFS SHOWING 40 KTS. THIS WILL RESULT IN STRONG
SCA CONDITIONS OVER THE WARMER GULF WATERS...AND WOULD NOT BE
SURPRISED TO SEE A FEW GUSTS NEAR GALE. A DRIER...COOLER...AUTUMN
LIKE AIRMASS WILL PUSH INTO THE REGION BEHIND THIS COLD FRONT.

MODELS HAVE BEEN IN DISAGREEMENT WITH REGARDS TO THE EVOLUTION OF
THE UPPER LEVEL PATTERN TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...AND HAVE ALSO
SHOWN POOR RUN TO RUN CONSISTENCY. OPERATIONAL GFS AND ECMWF THAT
WERE MORE PROGRESSIVE WITH THE PATTERN IN EARLIER RUNS ARE NOW
MORE SLOWER AND CUTT OFF A LOW OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS FOR A GOOD
PART OF THE WEEK. SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE 500 MB GFS ENSEMBLE
STANDARD DEVIATION IS QUITE HIGH TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...SO
CONFIDENCE IS LOW AT THE MOMENT. SHOULD LOW CUTT OFF AS INDICATED
MAY NEED TO DROP TEMPS A TAD BIT MORE THAN WHAT IS CURRENTLY
INDICATED...ALTHOUGH IT WILL REMAIN DRY.
