A cold front moved south across Iowa during the day and was stretched east-northeast to west-southwest across the southern part of the state by the late afternoon. Instability was somewhat limited with CAPE values in the 500 to 1500 J/kg range and lifted indices around -2 to -3.

A cold front moved south across Iowa during the day and was stretched east-northeast to west-southwest across the southern part of the state by the late afternoon. Instability was somewhat limited with CAPE values in the 500 to 1500 J/kg range and lifted indices around -2 to -3. The freezing level remained quite high, and was at 13,600 during the late afternoon. Thunderstorms formed by mid to late afternoon, but were not able to become very organized due to the lack of shear. Two storms did produce severe weather over southwest Iowa. One storm blew the roof off of an agricultural building southwest of Orient in Adair County, while another dropped three quarter inch diameter hail northeast of the Creston Airport in Union County.
