250 AM PST SAT JAN 7 2006

.SYNOPSIS...A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS MOVING INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
TODAY AND WILL MOVE ACROSS NORTHERN NEVADA THIS AFTERNOON. THE RIDGE
OVER NEVADA WILL WEAKEN SOME DUE TO THE LOW PRESSURE PASSAGE TO THE
NORTH AND DROP TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY ALONG WITH BRINGING SOME CLOUDS
TO CENTRAL NEVADA TODAY. DRY AND MILD CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL FROM
SUNDAY ON INTO THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK.

.SHORT TERM...TROUGH VISIBLE ON WATER VAPOR IS MAKING ITS WAY INLAND
NEAR THE BAY AREA IN CALIFORNIA THIS MORNING. NOT VERY IMPRESSIVE
CLOUD WISE IN THE IR AND EXPECT THAT WHATEVER CLOUD COVER ASSOCIATED
WITH IT WILL STAY IN THE NORTH PART OF THE FORECAST AREA. SOME
MOISTURE/CLOUDS ARE ALSO PRESENT WEST OF BAJA AND INTO SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA. THIS CLOUD COVER SHOULD RAPIDLY MOVE EAST AND OUT THE
AREA LATER THIS MORNING. SOME WIND GUSTS IN THE LOW 30S MPH RANGE
HAVE SHOWN UP IN THE SOUTHERN SIERRA AND SOME MID 20S IN THE
PANAMINTS WEST OF DEATH VALLEY. FOR NOW NOT EXPECTING ANYTHING
STRONGER. SOME FLATTENING OF THE RIDGE WILL OCCUR TODAY AND FOR THE
REST OF THE SHORT TERM WHICH WILL MAKE FOR SLIGHTLY COOLER HIGH
TEMPERATURES...BUT STILL ABOVE NORMAL. MADE VERY LITTLE CHANGE TO
PREVIOUS FORECAST.

.LONG TERM...OVERALL FLAT RIDGE TO REMAIN OVER THE CWA THROUGH MOST
OF THE LONG TERM. GFS STILL SHOWING WEAK SHORT WAVE MOVING ACROSS
THE EXTREME NORTHERN PORTION OF THE CWA LATE WEDNESDAY INTO EARLY
THURSDAY BUT 00Z RUN HAS BACKED OFF ON INTENSITY FROM 12Z RUN. WILL
CONTINUE TO SHOW ONLY SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
SIERRA WHILE DRY CONDITIONS CONTINUE ELSEWHERE. SHORT WAVE MAY CAUSE
AN INCREASE IN PRESSURE GRADIENTS AND WILL INCLUDE BREEZY IN SOME
MOUNTAIN ZONES. SHORT WAVE RIDGE THEN BUILDS BACK OVER THE AREA
THURSDAY/FRIDAY. WITH FLAT RIDGE GENERALLY ACROSS THE AREA DO NOT
ANTICIPATE MUCH CHANGE IN AFTERNOON TEMPS THROUGH THE PERIOD.
ALTHOUGH OCCASIONAL HIGH CLOUDS MAY TEMPER HIGHS A FEW DEGREES...
OVERALL WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP DAYTIME TEMPS 5 TO 8 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL.
