.DISCUSSION...
WESTERLY DOWNSLOPE WINDS WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE SOUTHERN TEXAS
PANHANDLE TONIGHT AND HELP TO KEEP MIN TEMPS SLIGHTLY WARMER THAN
PAST FEW NIGHTS...WHILE LIGHT WINDS IN THE NORTH AND EAST WILL ALLOW
FOR COOLING AS EXPERIENCED LAST EVENING DESPITE CLOUD COVER. AS LEE
TROF EXITS TOMORROW...A COLD FRONT WILL DROP THROUGH THE
PANHANDLES...USHERING IN THE START OF COOLER TEMPERATURES FOR THE
COMING WEEK. DOWNSLOPE AHEAD OF THE FRONT IN THE SOUTHERN ZONES WILL
ALLOW FOR A WARMUP TOMORROW BEFORE FRONTAL PASSAGE...BUT OTHERWISE
MAX TEMPS WILL BE MUCH COOLER THAN MOST AREAS SAW TODAY.
WHILE MODELS ARE CONSISTENT IN MAIN ENERGY ON SUNDAY PASSING TO THE
NORTH...BOTH UKMET AND GFS DO GRAZE THE NORTHERN PANHANDLES IN THE
SUNDAY TIMEFRAME WITH A PORTION OF THE UPPER LEVEL AREA OF LIFT. IN
ADDITION...ISENTROPIC UPGLIDE COULD BEGIN IN THE NORTHWEST AS EARLY
AS SATURDAY NIGHT...AND HAVE STARTED SLIGHT CHANCE POPS FOR SNOW IN
THE NORTHWESTERN ZONES AT 00Z SUNDAY FOR THIS POSSIBILITY AHEAD OF
THE APPROACHING WAVE.
ANOTHER SURGE OF COLD AIR ON SUNDAY WILL FOSTER ALREADY MOSTLY CLOUDY
SKIES AND SHOULD KEEP MAX TEMPS IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S NORTH TO
LOWER 40S SOUTH FOR SUNDAY. LIGHT WINDS SUNDAY NIGHT AMID A SURFACE
RIDGE AND DECREASING CLOUD COVER WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO DROP ONCE
AGAIN INTO THE UPPER TEENS TO LOWER 20S AREAWIDE. BRIEF MODERATION OF
TEMPERATURES THEN EXPECTED MONDAY AS LEE TROF AGAIN DEVELOPS.
AS USUAL...DEWPOINTS WERE FAR TOO WARM IN SHORT TERM MODEL
GUIDANCE...AND SO UNDERCUT NOTABLY IN REWORKING OF DEWPOINT GRIDS.
FRONTAL PASSAGE WIDELY ANTICIPATED FOR TUESDAY WILL SIGNAL THE
ARRIVAL OF AN ARCTIC CHILL FOR THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. 850MB TEMPS OF 14
TO 17 BELOW ZERO CELSIUS SUGGEST OVERNIGHT LOWS TUESDAY POSSIBLY IN
THE SINGLE DIGITS...WITH SIGNIFICANT WIND CHILLS APPROACHING ADVISORY
CRITERION FOR THE PANHANDLES...FOLLOWED BY HIGHS IN THE TEENS TO NEAR
20 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR WEDNESDAY FOR NORTHERN PARTS OF THE
FORECAST AREA...WHERE CLOUD COVER WILL BE AMPLE. GFS BRINGS NEXT
SYSTEM INTO THE AREA WEDNESDAY...WHICH COULD SIGNAL A THREAT OF SNOW
FOR MOST OF THE PANHANDLES REGION...HOWEVER UNCERTAINTY AT THIS TIME
PRECLUDES MENTION OF POPS. DID INCREASE NORTHERN ZONES TO JUST BELOW
SLIGHT CHANCE FOR FUTURE SHIFTS TO EXAMINE FURTHER.
CONTINUED COLD WEDNESDAY NIGHT AS WINDS SLACKEN AND SKIES BEGIN TO
CLEAR. WARMUP /AT LEAST RELATIVELY SPEAKING/ EXPECTED INTO FRIDAY AS
LEE TROF DEVELOPS AGAIN.
