Gusty north to northeast winds behind a shear line caused power outages in several places on Oahu, and toppled trees onto homes and roadways. Winds were generally sustained at 20 to 25 mph, with gusts estimated as high as 50 mph. One 17-year-old girl was seriously injured when a tree fell on her vehicle on Round Top Drive in the Tantalus area. No damage estimates were available.

A SHEAR LINE WILL BRING LOCALLY HEAVY SHOWERS...AS IT MOVES SLOWLY
DOWN THE ISLAND CHAIN TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. HIGH PRESSURE PASSING
NORTH OF THE ISLANDS WILL GENERATE BRISK TRADE WINDS BEHIND THE
SHEAR LINE. THESE SHOULD MODERATE LATER THIS WEEKEND AND CONTINUE
THROUGH THE COMING WEEK...ALONG WITH DRIER WEATHER.

THE SHEAR LINE...WHICH WAITED MOST OF THE DAY NORTH THROUGH WEST OF
KAUAI...FINALLY GOT PICKED UP BY AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH. THE TROUGH
ALOFT IS LOCATED JUST WEST OF A LARGE MASS OF LAYERED CLOUDS THAT
EXTENDS TO OAHU. AT THIS WRITING...THE SHEAR LINE IS ON THE EAST
EDGE OF THE CLOUD BAND. THE LOCATION OF THE SHEAR LINE IS ALSO
SUPPORTED BY THE BRISK NORTHEAST WINDS OVER KAUAI AND OAHU...WHICH
IS WHAT ONE WOULD EXPECT BEHIND A SHEAR LINE.

IT ALSO LOOKS LIKE THE HEAVY SHOWERS ARE MAINLY ALONG AND JUST AHEAD
OF THE SHEAR LINE. ALTHOUGH THERE APPEARS TO BE LITTLE IN THE WAY OF
HEAVY RAIN OVER KAUAI...WILL KEEP THE FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR THAT
ISLAND FOR NOW.

THE SHEAR LINE WILL CONTINUE DOWN THE ISLAND CHAIN...TONIGHT AND
SATURDAY. A 1025MB SURFACE HIGH CENTERED NORTHWEST OF THE STATE
WILL PASS NORTH OF THE STATE THIS WEEKEND. THE HIGH WILL MAINTAIN
MODERATE TO FRESH TRADE WINDS. MODERATE TRADE WINDS WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH THE COMING WEEK ALONG WITH DRIER...MORE NORMAL TRADE WIND
WEATHER.
