A SHEAR LINE WILL BRING SHOWERS TO KAUAI LATER TODAY...THEN MOVE DOWN THE ISLAND CHAIN TONIGHT AND THROUGH THE WEEKEND. HIGH PRESSURE PASSING NORTH OF THE ISLANDS WILL GENERATE MODERATE TO BRISK TRADE WINDS BEHIND THE SHEAR LINE...ALONG WITH DRIER WEATHER. && .DISCUSSION... THE NEARLY STATIONARY SHEAR LINE ABOUT 85 MILES NORTHWEST OF KAUAI IS WAITING FOR AN IMPULSE ALOFT MOVING IN RAPIDLY FROM THE WEST. THIS IMPULSE WILL ENERGIZE THE SHEAR LINE...AND BEGIN ITS PUSH TOWARD THE EAST SOUTHEAST LATER THIS AFTERNOON. A 1028MB SURFACE HIGH CENTERED NORTHWEST OF THE STATE NEAR 33N 173W WILL MOVE EAST BEHIND THE SHEAR LINE...PASSING NORTH OF THE STATE THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THIS WILL BRING MODERATE TO FRESH TRADE WINDS TO THE ISLANDS BEHIND THE SHEAR LINE...WHICH WILL PASS OVER OAHU TONIGHT...MAUI COUNTY ON SATURDAY...REACHING THE BIG ISLAND EARLY SUNDAY. MODERATE TRADE WINDS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE COMING WEEK ALONG WITH DRIER...MORE NORMAL TRADE WIND WEATHER. A TROUGH ALOFT ABOUT 900 MILES NORTHWEST OF KAUAI IS FORECAST TO MOVE TO THE SOUTHEAST...PASSING OVER THE ISLANDS AT THE SAME TIME AS THE SHEAR LINE.
