ATMOSPHERE OVER THE MID STATE REMAINS QUITE WARM AND MOIST, WITH MORNING SOUNDING GIVING A LIFTED INDEX OF -5.6, CONVECTIVE AVAILABLE POTENTIAL ENERGY OF 3900 J/KG, AND K-INDEX OF 35. IN ADDITION, PRECIPITABLE WATER IS 1.93 INCHES, DESPITE A MARKED DRY LAYER ABOVE 620 MB. UPPER AIR ANALYSES SHOW STRONG HIGH PRESSURE COVERING MOST OF THE EASTERN AND SOUTHERN U.S., WITH ONLY SHORTWAVE FAR TO OUR NORTH. ABUNDANT MOISTURE AVAILABLE IN THE ATMOSPHERE, COUPLED WITH DEEP INSTABILITY, WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO ALLOW NUMEROUS HEAT DRIVEN THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL. WITH RELATIVELY WEAK UPPER LEVEL WINDS, THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL ALSO BE SLOW MOVING, ALLOWING FOR SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATION OF RAINFALL OVER AFFECTED AREAS IN A SHORT TIME.
