For the second afternoon in a row, scattered thunderstorms developed across eastern New York as the result of a very unstable atmosphere abetted by an unseasonably cold pocket of air aloft. Two thunderstorm cells became severe. They both deposited large hail. The first thunderstorm cell resulted in nickle-size hail in Central Bridge, Schoharie County and one inch hail at Duanesburg, Schenectady County. Later, a second cell dumped large hail in various portions of Rensselaer County. Hailstones, of golf ball size (1.75 inches in diameter) were reported in Wynantskill, while one inch hail fell at both Troy and Poestenkill and dime-size hail fell in North Greenbush.
