INTERIOR CENTRAL CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HANFORD CA
900 AM PDT THU JUL 11 2002

A FAIRLY WELL DEFINED EASTERLY WAVE IS MOVING INTO THE SE CA DESERTS
THIS MORN...WITH A LARGE SWATH OF MID LEVEL MSTR AND CONVECTIVE
DEBRIS CLOUDINESS ADVANCING TOWARDS KERN COUNTY AND TULARE MTNS.
THIS CLOUD COVER WILL START TO CUT BACK ON THE MAX TEMPS SOMEWHAT SO
PLAN TO JUST NUDGE SOME OF THE FCST MAX TEMPS NEAR EAST KERN A BIT
DOWNWARD. IT MAY ALSO PUT A DENT LOCALLY IN THE INSTABILITY...BUT
WON/T COUNT ON THAT IF THE DECK THINS OUT HEADING INTO THE DRIER
AIRMASS AND SLIGHTLY MORE ANTICYCLONIC FLOW. AS THE SHORT WAVE
PUSHES AROUND THE PERIPHERY OF THE STRONG UPPER RIDGE IT SHOULD
PROGRESS OVER THE SOUTHERN SIERRA AND SAN JOAQUIN VLLY FROM AROUND
00Z-12Z TONIGHT...WITH PVA POSSIBLY SUPPORTING NOCTURNAL CONVECTION.
MID CREW HAS BOOSTED POPS FOR MTNS AND FOOTHILLS TDA/TONIGHT AND
INCLUDED THE MENTION THAT WE MIGHT SEE A STRAY FEW CELLS DRIFT OVER
INTO THE E/S ENDS OF THE SJV. THIS FCST CHANGE LOOKS GOOD AND
CURRENT ZNS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE OTHER THAN MINOR UPDATE TO ADJUST SOME
MAX EMPS A BIT LOWER FOR TDA.

IN THE WAVE OF THIS SHORT WAVE...A MONSOONAL FLOW PATTERN IS
BASICALLY USHERED INTO THE REGION ON THRU THE WEEKEND AND INTO THE
EXTENDED. THIS WILL BRING CONTINUED CHANCES FOR CONVECTION IN THE
MTNS...VARYING AMOUNTS OF MID/HI CLOUD COVER ASSOCIATED WITH WEAK
WAVES...AND AN INCREASE IN HUMIDITIES OVERALL. THE DECLINE IN
APPARENT TEMPERATURES FOR THE SJV IN PARTICULAR WILL LIKELY BE SLOW
OVER THE NEXT 3 DAYS AS THE AIRMASS BECOMES MORE MUGGY AND ALTHO
DAYTIME MAXES EDGE A BIT DOWN THE NOCTURNAL MINS WILL STAY AT LEAST
SOMEWHAT ELEVATED.

.HNX...HEAT ADVISORY FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SAN JOAQUIN
VALLEY...FOR THE FOOTHILLS OF THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA...
AND FOR THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS
THROUGH FRIDAY.
