Ice jams formed on the Chena River in the North Pole area - near the Nordale bridge and in the Steamboat Landing Subdivision, on the 3rd. On the morning of the 4th, water had backed up enough to flood several roads and a few homes in the Steamboat Landing and nearby areas. The main impact was that a half-dozen roads were impassable effectively stranding the residents. By the afternoon of the 6th, the jams had weakened to the point of allowing water to pass through, dropping the water levels. The cool temperatures during all of April and then rapid warm-up during early May caused the severe ice jamming.
