High winds developed along the Southern Seward Peninsula Coast between two opposing weather systems. A 1036mb high over the northern Arctic Coast combined with a 972mb low over the North Pacific helped create strong easterly winds over the area.

Wind gusts to 57 knots (66mph) were reported by the AWOS site at Golovin.
