Wind chill temperatures of 66 degrees below zero were reported at Deering as wind speeds increased above 15 mph. Sufficiently cold surface temperatures combined with the increasing winds resulted in the wind chills meeting warning criteria.

Wind chill temperatures of 66 degrees below zero were reported at Deering as wind speeds increased above 15 mph. Sufficiently cold surface temperatures combined with the increasing winds resulted in the wind chills meeting warning criteria. Winds increased as a northerly pressure gradient developed between a building high pressure system over Siberia, and lower pressure over mainland Alaska.
