A WINTER STORM SYSTEM MOVING OVER THE AREA THIS EVENING IS
GENERATING WINDY CONDITIONS OVER SOME LOCATIONS OF THE FOOTHILLS AND
BASIN AS WELL AS SOME RIDGETOPS OF THE BLUE MOUNTAINS. AS THE
GRADIENT SLACKENS OVERNIGHT...WIND SPEEDS WILL DIMINISH
SIGNIFICANTLY. THE EAST SLOPES OF THE CASCADES ARE BEING RAIN
SHADOWED QUITE EFFECTIVELY WITH THIS SYSTEM DUE TO THE STRONG ZONAL
FLOW ALOFT. THIS WESTERLY FLOW IS ALSO CREATING GOOD UPSLOPE
CONDITIONS OVER WEST FACING SLOPES AND ENHANCING PRECIP OVER THE
BLUES. WITH THIS INCREASE IN LIFT...SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO
BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES ABOVE 4000 FEET. THEREFORE...A WINTER WEATHER
ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS AS WELL AS
FOR WASHINGTON ZONE 25 TO COVER SLOP OVER NEAR THE CREST OF THE
CASCADES. PRECIP FROM THIS SYSTEM WILL LINGER INTO FRIDAY MORNING.
LATER DISTURBANCES IN THE UPPER FLOW WILL KEEP A CHANCE OF PRECIP IN
THE FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY. THE NEXT MAJOR WEATHER MAKER IS
PROGGED INTO THE AREA SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY. THIS SYSTEM HAS
THE POTENTIAL TO AGAIN GENERATE SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION AND BREEZY
CONDITIONS AS WELL AS BRING IN A COOLER AIR MASS OVER THE AREA. THE
COOLER TEMPERATURES MAY ALLOW SNOW LEVELS TO LOWER DOWN TO VALLEY
AND BASIN ELEVATIONS. A SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED
