AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SHREVEPORT LA 245 AM CDT THU JUN 28 2001 CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS RAPIDLY INTENSIFIED AROUND MIDNIGHT IN EAST TEXAS NORTH OF TYLER WITH BASEBALL SIZED HAIL REPORTED IN WOOD COUNTY. THUNDERSTORMS HAVE FORMED IN AN AREA OF HIGHER INSTABILITY. MESOETA INDICATED A VORT MAX ROTATING AROUND THE UPPER LOW WHICH IS HELPING TO ENHANCE THUNDERSTORMS. UPPER DIVERGENCE/DEFORMATION BETWEEN NW FLOW AROUND UPPER LOW IN SE MISSOURI AND FLOW THAT GOES TO THE SW AROUND UPPER HIGH OVER SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO IS MAIN FEATURE FOCUSING THE THUNDERSTORMS IN NORTHEAST TEXAS. STORMS DEVELOPED ABOUT 200 AM YESTERDAY AND KEPT GOING UNTIL ABOUT MID MORNING AND IT APPEARS THIS MORNINGS STORMS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST SUNRISE. THE ATMOSPHERE WILL CONTINUE TO BE UNSTABLE THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS UPPER LOW CURRENTLY OVER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...SLOWLY MOVES SOUTH AND WEST INTO NORTHERN ARKANSAS BY SATURDAY MORNING AND THEN WEAKENS OVER THE FORECAST AREA SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. DAYTIME HEATING AND VORT MAXES ROTATING AROUND THE UPPER LOW WILL CONTINUE TO ENHANCE THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT WITH A RISK FOR A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS...ESPECIALLY DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. ISOLATED AREAS MAY EXPERIENCE ENHANCED DEVELOPMENT LATE AT NIGHT SIMILAR TO TONIGHTS STORMS IN NORTHEAST TEXAS. BOTH EXCESSIVE RAINFALL OUTLOOK AND QPF DISCUSSION FOCUSING ON HEAVY RAINFALL AREA IN WESTERN PART OF FORECAST AREA. CONVECTION OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS WILL HAVE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT WITH UPPER DIVERGENCE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LEFT EXIT REGION OF A JET TO SUPPORT SOME LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL OVER SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHEAST TEXAS THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. WEAK MEAN UPPER FLOW WILL ALLOW INDIVIDUAL CELLS TO MOVE SLOWLY AND OVER THE SAME AREAS. THE AREA WILL BE TO SMALL TO ISSUE A FLASH FLOOD WATCH BUT WILL PUT LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IN THE WORDING FOR NORTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA. MAV SHOWING HIGHER POPS ACROSS NORTHERN SECTIONS CLOSER TO UPPER LOW WITH NGM FAIRLY UNIFORM. WILL GO WITH PERSISTENCE AND KEEP HIGHER POPS DURING THE DAY AND LOWER AT NIGHT. HIGH TEMPERATURES SHOULD RANGE THROUGH THE MID AND UPPER 80S TO POSSIBLY NEAR 90 AT LUFKIN. LOWS SHOULD STAY NEAR 70 AND BELOW WHERE RAINFALL OCCURS. PRELIMS...
