AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG SC
300 EDT SUN SEP 23 2001
SEVERAL DIFFERENT FORCING MECHANISMS WILL AFFECT THE WESTERN
CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA DURING THE NEXT TWO DAYS. A LOW
LEVEL CONVERGENCE AXIS SETTING UP ACROSS THE PIEDMONT...WITH
DEWPOINTS IN THE UPPER 60S TO AROUND 70...WILL KEEP SCATTERED
CONVECTION GOING THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS. A VORT MAX EJECTING ENE
FROM THE BASE OF THE LONGWAVE TROUGH TONIGHT WILL COMBINE WITH
INCREASING UPPER DIVERGENCE IN THE JETLET ENTRANCE REGION ALOFT TO
GENERATE ADDITIONAL OMEGA OVERNIGHT. ALL OF THIS COINCIDES WITH THE
STEADILY DEEPENING MOISTURE SEEN ON TIME SECTIONS. WILL NEED LIKELY
POPS FOR MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT WITH LOWEST CHC NW PIEDMONT.
FRONTAL BAND WILL WORK SWIFTLY ACROSS THE REGION DURING THE DAY
TOMORROW WITH A STRONG PUSH 18Z TO 00Z WITH THE MAIN VORT. LACK OF
HEATING WILL LIMIT INSTABILITY SOMEWHAT...BUT HIGH SFC DEWPOINTS AND
DYNAMICAL FORCING MAY KEEP STRONG CONVECTION GOING WITH THE FRONT.
SHEAR PROFILES LOOK QUITE INTERESTING ON THE AVN...WHILE ETA WIND
SPEEDS ARE SOMEWHAT LESS.
DRYING ENSUES MON EVENING FOR ALL BUT NW FLOW UPSLOPE PREFERRED NC
MTN AREAS WHERE LOW LEVEL MOISTURE POOL WRAPS BACK IN TO KEEP CHC OF
SHOWERS GOING. 850 MB ZERO ISOTHERM FLIRTS WITH THE NRN MTNS...BUT
MAIN COLD POOL STAYS NW OF REGION...AND IT IS CLIMATOLOGICALLY VERY
EARLY FOR NW FLOW MOUNTAIN SNOWS. WILL ADVERTISE SOME UPPER 30S
TEMPS HOWEVER TO GO WITH LINGERING RAIN SHOWERS IN THE NRN MTNS.
ADDITIONAL VORTS SWING SOUTHWARD DOWN BACKSIDE OF MEAN TROUGH...BUT
WITH LITTLE MOISTURE TO WORK WITH. WILL KEEP EXTENDED FORECAST DRY
AND RELATIVELY COOL THROUGH SUNDAY.
