A series of thunderstorms moved across Schuylkill County during the late afternoon of July 25th. Rain amounts of 2 to 3 inches were recorded in less than 2 hours as the storms moved through the region. Heaviest hit was the area around Pottsville, where numerous roads were flooded. Water, up to 3 feet deep, was reported on area roads. Numerous basements were flooded, and water also damaged several businesses, including a local restaurant, a real estate office, and a baby supply store. Pottsville local officials issued a state of emergency for the city, which was lifted early the next morning.
