Area forecast discussion, Nov 24, 2:10 AM CST, 9 hours 50 minutes before
SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA/NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE
210 AM CST SAT NOV 24 2001

STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW WAS SEEN SPINNING OVER KANSAS AT THIS HOUR
PER WATER VAPOR IMAGERY AND PROFILERS. DRY SLOT OVER EASTERN KANSAS
SUGGESTS A TROP FOLD THERE ALLOWING INTRUSION OF STRATOSPHERIC AIR
...AIDING IN DEEPENING SURFACE LOW NEAR CNK. MEANWHILE LATEST UPPER
AIR ANALYSIS HAD AN IMPRESSIVE 170KT JET CORE OVER NRN CA AT 300MB.
PACIFIC MOISTURE STILL STREAMING IN FROM THE WEST. AT THE SFC...
AFOREMENTIONED SURFACE LOW APPEARS TO BE DEEPENING. TIGHT GRADIENT ON
THE BACK SIDE IS PUSHING SURFACE WINDS INTO ADVISORY CRITERIA. STILL
THOUGH...CAA IS NOT ALL THAT IMPRESSIVE.

AS FOR THE MODELS...NOT MUCH DIFFERENTIATION TO SPEAK OF UNTIL OUT TO
60 HRS. THE AVN WANTS TO GO A BIT NORTH WITH NEXT SYSTEM ROLLING
IN MONDAY MORNING WHILE THE ETA IS SOUTH. WONT GET WORKED UP ABOUT
THAT THIS FAR OUT BUT SOLUTION PROBABLY LIES SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN.

IN THE NEAR TERM...WIND AND TEMPS ARE THE CONCERN. WESTERN SECTIONS
OF THE CWA ARE ALREADY AT ADV CRITERIA LEVEL. GUSTY WINDS WILL
PROBABLY PERSIST THROUGH THE DAY AS SFC LOW MOVES NE AND TIGHTER
GRADIENT MOVES IN. SO WILL POST AN ADVISORY TODAY FOR ENTIRE CWA.
TEMPS WILL ALSO BE TRICKY. WELL MOST LIKELY HIT OUR HIGH EARLY THIS
MORNING WITH TEMPS FALLING THRU THE REST OF THE AFTN.

WE GET A SHORT REPRIEVE FROM THE WEATHER TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. PROGGED
500MB HT INCREASES OF 15 DAM OVER THE PLAINS AND STRONG SUBSIDENCE
SHOULD REDUCE CLOUD COVER AND HELP TEMPS RECOVER A BIT SUNDAY AFTN
WHEN SFC WINDS SHIFT SE. IT WILL PROBABLY TURN BREEZY SUNDAY AFTN
AS A DEVELOPING SFC LOW INTENSIFIES NEAR SE CO IN RESPONSE TO NEXT
UPPER LEVEL WAVE MOVING OVER THE MTNS.

SIMILAR WEATHER SYSTEM AS OF LATE COMES INTO PLAY SUNDAY NIGHT. AS
MENTIONED CYCLOGENESIS OVER SE CO SHOULD AGAIN PUMP WARMER AIR MASS
INTO THE AREA. AT THIS POINT WILL PUT HIGHER POPS WESTERN CWA
SUNDAY NIGHT. PCPN SHOULD BE WELL UNDERWAY BY MONDAY. EXPECT PCPN TO
START OUT AS RAIN THEN GRADUALLY CHANGE OVER TO SNOW BY AFTN IN WRN
CWA. THIS SYSTEM APPEARS TO HAVE MORE OF A CAA PUNCH WITH IT. IF
MODEL QPFS HOLD TRUE...KS CWA WOULD SEE LITTLE IN THE WAY OF PCPN.
AT THIS POINT THOUGH...SMALL POPS ARE AT LEAST WARRANTED DUE TO
UNCERTAINTIES.

.GID...WIND ADVISORY ENTIRE CWA TODAY.
