During the afternoon and evening of the 24th, a deep low pressure system moved from the central plains into the western Great Lakes region. Ahead of this storm system, a strong cold front moved through southeast Michigan late in the evening of the 24th and early in the morning of the 25th. Gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms accompanied the passage of this frontal boundary. A few of the thunderstorms, in combination with the already gusty surface winds, produced damaging wind gusts.
