AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY 310 PM EDT THU JUL 26 2001 BIGGEST CONCERN WILL AGAIN BE POTENTIAL FLASH FLOODING. EAST-WEST ORIENTED BOUNDARY STILL NEAR THE OHIO RIVER IS SAGGING SOUTH AND WILL BE ACROSS FA WITH MEAN FLOW NEARLY PARALLEL TO THE FRONT AND HIGH PWS. SO FAR RAINFALL AMOUNTS HAVE GENERALLY BEHAVED BUT AM RELUCTANT TO CANCEL FLASH FLOOD WATCH AS FRONT WILL BE IN OUR AREA TONIGHT AND WILL PROBABLY NOT CLEAR THE CWA. SURFACE LOW IN SOUTH CENTRAL INDIANA HEADING EAST WITH SHOWERS CONTINUING TO TRAIN. ANY SMALL STREAM FLOODING SEEMS TO BE ISOLATED RIGHT NOW...BUT WILL NOT REMOVE FLASH FLOOD WATCH AS TRAINING OF GENERALLY LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN IS ONGOING. PW TRENDS DOWNWARD TONIGHT AS SOME DRYING OCCURRS IN MID AND UPPER LEVELS AND HENCE BIGGEST CONCERN FOR FLASH FLOODING WILL BE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. Heavy rains brought wide spread flash flooding to the area. Hardest hit areas were Sookeys Creek, Lick Fork and Town Fork. 3 to 5 inches of rain fell in these areas washing out creek beds causing major damage to roadways, storm drains and personal property.
