WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
255 PM EDT FRI JUN 29 2001
THIS AFTERNOONS MODEL ANALYSIS SUGGESTS THAT THE NGM IS HANDLING THE
OVERALL SMALL SCALE FEATURES THE BEST COMPARED WITH THE AVIATION AND
MESO-ETA MODELS. THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY...PRECIPITATION AND UPPER
LEVEL DIVERGENCE FIELDS APPEAR TO BE IN-LINE WITH ACTUAL OBSERVED
CONDITIONS. ALSO...PREVIOUS MODEL RUNS HAVE FAVORED THE NGM AS THE
MODEL OF CHOICE HANDLING TROPICAL AIRMASS OVER WEST CENTRAL AND
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS.
FOR THIS EVENING...EXPECT THE GREATEST PRECIPITATION COVERAGE TO
OCCUR FROM TAMPA NORTH TO LEVY COUNTY. HOWEVER...FAVORABLE UPPER
LEVEL DIVERGENCE AND AFTERNOON HEATING WILL ALLOW SCATTERED TO
NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS TO ALSO DEVELOP FROM COASTAL MANATEE SOUTH TO
LEE COUNTY. PRIMARY THREAT FROM THIS EVENINGS CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY
WILL BE HEAVY RAIN. LOTS OF LOW-HANGING SCUD CLOUDS...FROM LOW BASE
CONVECTION...WILL LIKELY TRIGGER MANY BOGUS FUNNEL CLOUD REPORTS.
ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...THE NGM MAINTAINS THE SURFACE AND 700 MB
HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE AXIS...EAST TO WEST...ACROSS NORTH FLORIDA. THUS
TROPICAL SOUTHEAST FLOW WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE PENINSULA THROUGH
THE WEEKEND. EXPECT MOVEMENT OF THE CONVECTION TO BECOME ORIENTED
MORE SOUTH TO NORTH IN CONCERT WITH THE 500/700 MB STEERING FLOW BY
SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY THUS TRAINING ECHOES MAY BECOME A PROBLEM.
AVIATION MODEL HINTS TO LOWER PRECIPITABLE WATER LEVELS MONDAY AND
TUESDAY WITH ANOTHER WAVE INCREASING LOW AND MID LEVEL MOISTURE
...MAINLY SOUTH FLORIDA...WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.
